HomeTeam is a new service from Panasonic that was created specifically to build lasting bonds and meaningful connections between grandparents and grandchildren through shared activities like video calls, shared real-time book reading over video, and shared game play.

This is especially good for those distant relatives who can’t be around the children but want to keep a connection.

The app, designed for iPad and Android tablets, can also be used via browser on PC now, with Mac to follow. HomeTeam will give grandparents and their grandkids a common ground, allowing the family to talk through things like soccer games, educational lessons and even a shared meal from two different locations. The live feed video experiences draw comparisons to Apple’s FaceTime, which also provides striking similarities.

The difference however is the UI is so easy, it’s easy for all generations to understand. Included are popular children’s books like Curious George Gets a Medal, Curious George Goes to the Hospital, and Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed. On top of that, there are fun interactive games to build lasting memories between the generations like Tic-Tac-Toe, Go Fish, Chess, and Animal Match. At launch, there will be roughly 600 books and more than 2,500 licensed games.

This app will for sure build meaningful relationships versus the typical “yes and no” phone calls that lack depth and duration that many children as well as adults have. HomeTeam does all of this in a natural experiences, anytime and anywhere.
