The opening sequence of Graven: The Purple Moon Prophecy tells you the backstory of how a demon was unleashed in the world a very long time ago, but was eventually contained and imprisoned. However, a prophecy was revealed that foretold chaos and evil being unleashed on the night where a comet hides behind the moon, turning the sky purple. That night has arrived, and it falls to you to stop the prophecy from being realized!
You play as a young archeologist who is traveling to Brittany to check out a set of ancient menhirs, or magnificent standing stones, only to realize that there is a greater adventure at play that could change the fate of the world! From the start you will be exploring dark streets and meeting mysterious characters and solving fun puzzles using objects from a variety of hidden object scenes!
While the game is based around having seven hours before the prophecy is fulfilled, in reality the game will take about 5 hours for most people to complete on normal difficulty. That is quite a bit of content for a game in this genre, and none of it is wasted filler – the game keeps you moving along throughout the entire time you play.
Ease of use/Overall performance:
Graven: The Purple Moon Prophecy controls like a standard hidden object game, so you are tapping and pinch-zooming to find objects, using things you find in the world to take action on other items, engaging a variety of puzzles and hunting down numerous paths looking for clues!
The graphics and sounds are solid, not superb, but are fairly standard for a game in this genre released today. The color palette is moody and atmospheric without having you lose the ability to see items around the world. Everything is detailed and clear and evokes a unique charm that enhances your time playing.
Would use again/recommend?: Definitely! I have always loved hidden object games wrapped around intriguing stories, and this game has an intriguing premise that delivers an excellent experience by sustaining the story from start to finish and keeping you wondering how it will all wrap up right until the end.
For me, one of the most important things is that while there is nothing in the game I would rate a ’10/10′, pretty much everything is a 9/10 – and that is rare. Every element, every moment is well executed and worth experiencing. In too many games I start skipping cutscenes later in the game – but not here.
