The UWaterX3 Waterproof Wireless Action Speaker Is Ready for Anything

Fitness Technologies, Inc.’s UWaterX3 Wireless Action Speaker is a unique waterproof Bluetooth speaker that is ready for almost anything. This monster truck tire-looking speaker feels completely solid and indestructible. The UWaterX3 creates great sound with its 50mm driver and directional subwoofer. This speaker comes with a number of mounting options for many different types of activities and retails for $130.

When I first unboxed the UWaterX3, I thought that it must be a novelty speaker that can’t compete with the big boys in terms of sound quality. Boy, was I wrong! As soon as I paired the speaker with my iPhone and streamed the Beastie Boys’ hit “Intergalactic,” I knew this speaker came to play. The bass was distinct, the high notes were crisp, and the speaker did not sound tinny at all, which is atypical for small speakers like this.

I will attribute the great sound to the powerful 50mm driver and directional subwoofer that Fitness Technologies, Inc. installed inside the speaker’s metal chamber. Per the manufacturer’s website, this speaker can pump out 85 decibels, which will be powerful enough for most of us.

This speaker is IPX7 rated waterproof, impact proof, sand proof, and snow proof. The UWaterX3 is engineered to survive accidental submersion in water up to 1m for up to 30 minutes. It has a Bluetooth range of approximately 10m, which is standard, but it will not operate underwater, unsurprisingly. It also has handsfree speakerphone functionality using its built-in microphone. The speaker’s rechargeable battery lasts up to an incredible 14 hours of play time.

The biggest distinguisher, for me, with this speaker is its look. As I mentioned above, it looks like a truck tire, complete with chrome hubcaps on the top and bottom and silicone tread along the outside. The top hubcap contains the UWater logo and protects the 50mm driver. The bottom hubcap more resembles a speaker grill with a ¼” universal mount and this protects the directional subwoofer and provides a mounting location for optional mounts. The silicone tread actually protrudes down to allow the bottom grill to be raised off of the ground slightly to allow the bass to exit the speaker. Though, ideally if you’re using it on a table, you should use the included desktop mount, pictured below.

The main controls for the UWaterX3 are around the circumference of the silicone tire tread. All of the controls are protected with silicone to further increase the water and dust protection. There is a power button, combined track forward/back and volume up/down buttons, play/pause button, and speakerphone button. Also along the circumference is a 3.5mm jack that serves as the speaker’s waterproof charging port. Surrounding this 3.5mm jack is the LED indicator that blinks blue when it’s paired with a device and glows red while charging.

The mounts that are included with this speaker include a carabiner mount, triple-axis bike mount, inflatable floating mount, and metal pedestal mount. Also inside the retail package is the speaker itself, a USB charging cable, and owner’s manual.

When looking at the overall package with the sound quality and the environments and accidents that it can withstand, I fully support the funky-looking UWaterX3 as a great purchase for anyone looking for an action speaker that can go anywhere with them.

You can purchase the UWaterX3 directly from the manufacturer for $89.95, which is a sale price at the time of the writing of this review.
