The EasyAcc DP100 Ultra Portable Bluetooth Speaker lives up to its name, since it’s smaller than a can of soda. This tiny Bluetooth speaker puts out decent sound for its size, convenience, and price while its battery lasts up to 20 hours of playback time. This low-energy Bluetooth 4.0 speaker is now available at Amazon for $35.99.

While the DP100 borrows much of its design aesthetic from the Sonos Play, that’s where the similarities end. EasyAcc has created a very attractive, decent sounding, easy to carry Bluetooth Speaker with great playback time, but my biggest complaint is the lack of sound quality. In my testing, the DP100 lacked the clarity that I look for in a speaker. While jamming out to Led Zeppelin in the kitchen this weekend, my wife and I both noticed that a lot of the detail normally heard in higher quality speakers was missing in this one.

Details on the EasyAcc DP100 on their website are scarce, but you can find a little more information on the Amazon product page and inside the booklet that comes with the speaker. The speaker puts out 4W of power from its single 45mm driver. Unfortunately though, there’s no tweeter for the high notes or subwoofer port for the low notes. And that’s likely where the sound quality issues lie. It appears that EasyAcc traded size and aesthetics for sound quality with this speaker.

The DP100 weighs 10.6 oz and easily fits in the palm of my hand. The exact dimensions are 3.75” high x 2.5” wide x 2.5” deep. It has a rechargeable lithium battery with a capacity of 2200 mAh, which EasyAcc says will power your speaker for 20 hours of music playback, 300 hours of standby, or 8-10 hours of talk time. The EasyAcc DP100 also functions as a speakerphone, with a small mic hole in the top of the speaker. My experience with the speakerphone function was mixed, as calls sounded OK, but it wouldn’t work for Siri on my iPhone 6 Plus or allow me to convert speech to text.

The top of the DP100 has the control buttons; one big play button as well as a + button and a – button. The play button will play and pause music as well as pick up or hang up on phone calls. The “plus” and “minus” buttons have multiple functions, they’ll skip forward or backward if pressed and raise or lower the volume when held. The top of the speaker also houses the microphone hole and the white LED indicator that appears to continually blink when it’s powered on. The speaker grill covers most of the exterior of the speaker except for a black strip in the back. The back of the speaker contains the DC in port for the microUSB charger, the on/off switch, and the 3.5mm aux port. The bottom of the speaker has a nice grippy base so it won’t slide off the table.

The DP100 comes with a nice satin-feeling travel pouch as well as a microUSB charging cable and a 3.5mm aux cable, which adds to its travel-ability.

Overall, I love the aesthetic of the DP100 as well as its size, however it’s hard to overlook the lack of clarity and detail in the sound. Sound is the most important quality in a speaker and I would prefer to sacrifice design aesthetic and size for a bigger and better sound.

You can purchase the EasyAcc DP100 from Amazon today for $35.99.
