Fallout 4 is Happening and it’ll be a Beautiful Nuclear Wasteland

After 24 hours of teasing, Bethesda Game Studios announced the long-awaited fourth installment of the Fallout video game franchise ahead of the full reveal at E3. Fallout 4 takes place in, you guessed it, an open-world post-apocalyptic nuclear wasteland…but this time, it appears to be in post-nuclear fallout Boston! Fallout 4 will be released on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Although the game’s official website gives you the option to pre-order Fallout 4, no official release date has been announced at this time. If I were to guess, I’d bet Bethesda is waiting until the full reveal at E3 on June 14th to reveal the release date of one of the most hotly-anticipated sequels, likely defeated in total anticipation only by the number of Valve fan boys (and girls) clamoring for a Half Life sequel. The fact that the game is centered in Boston hasn’t been officially announced, but sharp eyes will notice the golden dome of the State House, a heavily fortified post-apocalyptic version of Fenway Park, the USS Constitution, as well as the Paul Revere statue in the game’s trailer.

Take a look for yourself:

There hasn’t been much information released yet on Fallout 4, other than the above promotional video, and the fact that the game will be released on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. This is welcome news to next-gen console owners and PC users, as this likely means that Bethesda was able to concentrate on making sure the game can use all of the graphical and physics power that’s available on the Xbox One and PS4 as well as high-end PC configurations.

The Fallout franchise takes place in numerous nuclear wastelands around North America, where you play as the protagonist, a survivor who lived in an underground vault to escape the fallout. Fallout 3, for instance, took place in the Washington, DC area while Fallout: New Vegas took place around Las Vegas. You travel around the ruined landscape, collecting weapons, meeting friends, foes, and monsters. The game plays out as a first-person role-playing game, as you collect and upgrade weapons, equipment, and armor to improve your character’s chance of survival through missions and side-quests in vast, open-world environments.

Even before seeing any further information, or gameplay video for that matter, I know that this will be an insta-buy for me, having fallen in love with the series back with Fallout 3. Are you all aboard the hype train like I am? Let us know!
