Give Your Gadgets the Wood Effect with Cover-Up’s Products

Have you ever thought about covering up your Macbook? What about giving your iPhone a nice wood feel to it/ Well I had the opportunity to do both when I received Cover-Up’s Woodback collection for the Macbook and iPhone 6 Plus.

If you’ve never been interested in having real wood on your devices, you might need to take a look at Cover-Up’s products. Hand crafted from real wood, and made in Wales, the products each came individually packaged and once I opened the box they came in, the smell of fresh wood caught my attention before the actual look of the three cases.

I received two skins and a case. A “Maple” skin for my Macbook Air, a “Cherry” skin for my iPhone 6 Plus, which is essentially a back plate for your phone that offers no real protection, but it looks damn good. Finally I received the “Blackened Ash” case. They all come in a nice looking cardboard casing focusing on the wood model you pick as the main highlight of the packaging.

The entire premise of the Cover-Up cases is all about the looks, not necessarily the protection from things like weather and drops. The three different types of wood that I received were very real, showing that the wood had imperfections, which I thought was a nice touch.

First one that I opened was the Woodback Skin for the iPhone 6 Plus which is laser-cut to fit just on the back of your phone through an adhesive application.

As it protects nothing outside of that, this case is essentially for the minimalist who just wants to add a bit of flair to their case.

The laser-cut wood leaves ample space for your camera so you will have no problems there at all. This skin is only £14.95, which is dirt cheap for what you’re getting.

Next there’s the snap case version of the iPhone which is essentially the same as the skin, but instead of using adhesive, the polycarbonate case has the wood panel attached to it.

Since each of the hand-crafted wood cases are sanded down, you won’t worry about things like splinters, which has always been a concern of mine with wood anything, so that’s a huge bonus.

The case itself is essentially a bumper case with a wood back, which even though it doesn’t protect the buttons, it does give you open access to them. There’s ample cutout space for the camera as well. You can pick up the Snap Case for the iPhone 6 Plus for £19.99.

Finally there’s the Macbook Air’s Woodback skin, that is my personal favorite out of the three. It’s the same as the skin for the iPhone version, protecting the back of your Macbook, but that’s all.

It’s an adhesive, so I suggest taking your time to make sure that it sits perfectly. One bonus is that when your screen is on and open, you can still see the illuminated Apple sign which to me was perfect.

At only £19.95, it is easily worth it’s pricetag.

Time will tell how the lighter woods will handle being tossed between my backpack and my pocket, and the only concern I’ve had so far is the adhesive on my iPhone skin collecting pocket lint around the edges, but that’s to be expected. Overall though, I love the wood finish on all of the products, and as of now I know my Macbook gets a LOT of extra attention in the coffee shop for standing out. Plus it looks a whole lot classier than those Macbooks you see with stickers all over them!

Now don’t just go thinking that Cover-Up is just Apple exclusive. They made the same wood products for pretty much anything you can name, from the Kindle Fire, to Samsung Galaxy devices, as well as other tablets and smartphones. You don’t get this type of high quality with this low price tag often so if you’re in the mood to make your devices look more elegant, you should head over to Cover-Up today.

What I like: I personally enjoy the smell of each of the products and the imperfections make the case a delight to look at!

What Needs Improvement: Possibly a case that protects the entirety of the device, including the bottom for those who don’t dock.
