With CES 2016 on the way thoughts turn to external batteries. Truth is, Judie and I have discovered that we can never have too many of them as we run from meeting to meeting. The new ZAGG Power Amp 12 Portable Charger and Flashlight is a great option that will charge an iPhone four times and provides a flashlight too!
The ZAGG Power Amp 12 Portable Charger and Flashlight is $69.99. That may sound pricey but for the money you get an external battery that is well-made, offers a good amount of external charging, a smart chip so devices charge quickly but safely, and a flashlight.
The battery is made of metal so you know it is going to put up with a good deal of use and abuse. The metal is, however, mostly covered with a synthetic material that is soft to the touch. That means the battery is less likely to scratch items when placed into your bag, won’t show fingerprints and scratches as you use it on the road and, perhaps most of all, is easy and comfortable to hold.
This last point is especially important since the battery doubles as a highly effective flashlight!
The battery has a microUSB port for charging using the included USB to microUSB cable. It also has two full-size USB ports so you can charge two devices at once. Both ports offer 2.4A of power so you get rapid and efficient charging.
A subtle indicator lights up to let you know how much charge you have remaining.
It is an impressive package!

We’ve reviewed numerous external batteries. This is one of the nicest I’ve seen. The combination of the metal and soft material make it attractive. The internal tech means I can charge with confidence. And the capacity means this battery will keep Raina’s and my phones going as we use our iPhones as our cameras during our honeymoon. It is a winner and will definitely be making its way to CES with me.
