Motorola Partnering with Indiegogo to Help Developers make Cool MotoMods

One of the most interesting things about my new phone, a Motorola Z Force Droid Edition, is the mod system. The initial mods were kind of blah with the speaker, various battery packs, the projector, and the Hasselblad camera. However, that will soon change with the help of Indiegogo and Verizon.

Motorola is partnering up with Indiegogo and Verizon to help new and interesting mods to be developed for Moto Mod compatible devices like the Motorola Z, Z Force. and Z Play. There are two ways to get started:

  • Share your idea
  • Hack to the Top
    • Transform the Smartphone hackathons will kick off in December 2016 in San Francisco and New York (click here for more information), giving you the chance build a Moto Mod prototype with in-person help from the pros. Get feedback in real-time on your hardware design and crowdfunding strategy. Feed off the creative energy of other developers and get inspired by customers’ ideas for their dream Moto Mods.
    • Among other prizes, the Grand Prize Winners of each hackathon will automatically become Transform the Smartphone Challenge finalists invited to pitch their ideas at Moto headquarters in March 2017.

I think this is a really cool idea, and it will truly start to get some more innovative ideas rather than just batteries, camera, and projector add-ons. For more, head over to this page on Indiegogo.

What are some of your ideas?
