What do you get when you apply precise engineering, attention to detail, and high-quality fabrics to a stroller? You’d get the Cybex Priam Travel System.  This incredibly versatile travel system allows you to use everything from a bassinet to a standard stroller seat, to an infant car seat, all with the same Priam frame.  The Priam starts at $649.95.

In its standard configuration, the Priam comes with a Lux Seat, which makes it a standard stroller for kids up to 55 pounds.  The Priam has a number of convenient features that help make life easier for parents or caretakers of young children.  The seat, which is removable, can be attached either facing towards or facing away from you, the extendable sun canopy with UVP50+ sun protection is gigantic, the Lux Seat is fully reclinable, the footrest is adjustable, and the bumper bar is made of a soft faux-leather for a high-class look.  The Lux Seat also comes with a rain cover that’s simple as pie to install and it even has a flap in front of your child’s face that can open for comfort.

The Priam frame itself also has a number of features, including one-handed folding capability, a large shopping basket underneath, an easy to use foot brake, rubber, foam-filled wheels, for a smooth ride, and a height-adjustable handlebar.  Each Priam frame also comes with adapters that are compatible with all Priam attachments, like Cybex car seats, the Lux Seat, the 2-in-1 Seat, and the carry cot.

As soon as we opened the box, my wife and I marveled at the first-class fabric that the Lux Seat is made of.  The color of the Lux Seat we received is called “Manhattan Gray” and the fabric is very similar to denim.  Cybex says that it’s made using a twill effect, which helps make the Lux Seat very durable, while also adding a unique style.  It’s hard to describe without feeling it for yourself, but trust me when I say that I’ve never felt a more high-end fabric on a stroller before.

With a single hand, you’re able to grasp the lever on the back of the seat to bring the Lux Seat to a full recline, allowing your child to completely relax during your walk.  The Lux Seat is also made to be at standard table height, so you’re able to use the Priam as a high chair in a pinch.

The Cybex Priam is the ultimate in adjustability and adaptability when you keep in mind that not only are four different seats compatible with the Priam frame, including an infant car seat, but the 2-in-1 seat can also be converted from a standard reclinable seat to a bassinet-style carry cot.  Not only does it have a bunch of different seat options, there are also three different wheel options:  Light wheels that are comfortable and agile on smooth surfaces, Trekking wheels that are a hybrid solution for multiple surfaces, and All-Terrain wheels that provide a smooth and comfortable ride even on bumpy surfaces.

Finally, Priam has the one stroller accessory you never knew you needed, skis!  That’s right, Cybex even has a ski attachments to replace the front wheels if you decide to trek out into the winter tundra with your Priam. The Cybex Priam is the perfect companion to keep folded up in your truck awaiting the next adventure with your kids, whether there be rain, snow, or blazing sun.

Underneath the Priam is a unique storage basket that uses magnets as a closure.  The flap in the back of the stroller folds out and provides an expandable storage space with easy access.  The only downside to this design is that there is no access to the storage basket from the front or sides.  Although Priam sells accessories like a cup holder, we were disappointed in the lack of convenience accessories for the parent.  Similar strollers have “parent consoles” that provide convenient dual cupholders and a small storage pocket, which help if you’ll be out for a while.

In our testing, we were instantly impressed with the smooth ride of the Priam.  With our 2.5-year-old in the Lux Seat, we were able to easily glide along while maneuvering the Priam with a single hand.  While the Priam does not fold up as small as some other strollers, it will still fit in most trunks.  Also, the Lux Seat is a bit higher than my wife is used to, as she was not able to see directly over the seat when it’s in the straight sitting position.  However, the ride, the sun canopy, and the premium build quality are extraordinary.  Our daughter loved being up so high in the Priam.  When we switched back to her normal stroller, she actually asked to be put up higher, which we couldn’t do.

Cybex was nice enough to also send along their Cloud Q infant car seat for testing in a color called “Moondust.”  The Cloud Q is built for rear-facing infants from birth up to approximately 18 months and is light years ahead of the competition in terms of safety features.  Using the included adapters, you can place the Cloud Q right on the Priam frame for a quick and easy stroll around the neighborhood.  The Cloud Q retails for $399.99.

The Cloud Q comes with a base that is compatible with modern latch systems for car installation.  The latch method of installation is much simpler than other methods which include wrapping the seat belt around the base and continuously tightening the belt until it’s as tight as it can be.  The latch system is compatible with most cars.  The best thing about the base, however, is that it has a load leg that is unlike anything I’ve seen in car seat bases in the past.  The leg extends to the floor of the car and helps transfer load from the car seat to the floor in the event of a crash while also stabilizing the base during everyday use.

The Cloud Q car seat itself has some pretty nifty features as well, including the ability to fully recline.  This is a nice option for when your child has fallen asleep in the car and you don’t want to wake her to take her out of the car seat.  As you should know, it’s unsafe to keep infants in their car seat while separated from the base, as the angle of the seat can cause their head to tilt forward, cutting off their air supply.  However, with the Cloud Q, once out of the car, you’re able to bring the car seat inside and recline it fully to allow your child to sleep peacefully (supervised, of course) in the seat without waking him or her.

Recline can be achieved with one hand, however, one thing that needs to be improved is that you don’t have a ton of leverage to recline the seat with one hand.  Generally, I’ve had to hold the seat still with one hand and pull the lever with the other hand, pulling the seat back into a full recline.

Another differentiating safety feature is the Telescopic L.S.P System.  L.S.P. stands for Linear Side-Impact and it consists of two arms that telescope off of the car seat’s shell.  The L.S.P. arms, in conjunction with the energy-absorbing shell, help protect your baby in the event of a side-impact collision.  The arms and shell help absorb the initial impact on the side of the car against the car door and they channel the force away from the baby.  While in theory, this makes an excellent safety feature; as a parent, you’ll need to remember to extend the L.S.P. arms each time you place the car seat on the base in the car.  Plus, the necessity of pushing the arms back in each time you take the car seat out of the car may become an annoyance for some parents.
One of the premier features of the Cloud Q car seat is the XXL foldaway sun canopy.  The canopy provides UVP50+ protection for your baby and covers almost the entire car seat.  The canopy can be extended incrementally or it can be completely hidden when folded away.  This is one of the nicest, most protective sun canopies I’ve seen oni a car seat.

The Cloud Q also comes with a removable newborn inlay which is a soft cushion that allows a good full-recline angle for your baby’s head while significantly reducing the risk of suffocation.  This inlay also allows the car seat to be completely customizable so your car seat can grow with your baby from birth to 18 months.  On the theme of customization, the Cloud Q’s headrest has 11-position adjustability; you read that right, ELEVEN different headrest heights.

Adjusting the headrest height also automatically adjusts the harness length so you don’t have to worry about manually adjusting the harness each time you adjust the car seat as your child grows.  Again, super customizable and super easy.

The fabric on the Cloud Q is one of the softest I’ve ever felt.  It almost makes me wish that I were a baby so that I could take a ride in it to feel what it’s like to be surrounded by such lush padding.  Everything about the Cloud Q car seat screams “high-quality.”  Unfortunately, however, the car seat is a bit heavier than some of its competitors; weighing in at 13.9 lbs.  Compared to the Britax B-Safe car seat, which is 10 lbs even, the Cloud Q is almost 40% heavier.  If you’re lugging around a car seat all day, a lighter car seat may be more your style.

The safety features built into the Cloud Q infant car seat are impressive and should seriously protect your infant in a car accident.  The build quality, fabric, and padding are also top-notch.  My only concern with the Cloud Q is the weight of the car seat at almost 14 pounds, which could get heavy for some as time goes on.  The fact that the Cloud Q is compatible with the Priam is excellent and it should be noted that the Cloud Q is also compatible with Baby Jogger double strollers with their adapters.

You can purchase the Cybex Priam and Cloud Q at many retailers, including Buy Buy Baby, Nessa Lee Baby, and more.  Check out Cybex’s retailer list to find your local store.

What I Like:  Premium fabrics and build quality; Smoothest ride we’ve felt; Convenient features and flexible accessories; Excellent safety features on the Cloud Q

What Needs Improvement:  Does not fold very flat without removing seat; Slightly heavy compared to the Britax we had been used to; Limited convenience accessories for parents like a rear console; Cloud Q is a bit on the heavy side
