If you’re a Verizon customer and find yourself suddenly prompted to reset your PIN, you may not be alone. Word started to trickle out yesterday about a security breach which may have impacted up to 6 million Verizon Home customers. The issue appears to be related to an error in how some data was secured on a public cloud server.
According to Verizon (via Associated Press):
Verizon Wireless says 6 million customers were affected, but the company says that none of the information made it into the wrong hands. The company says the only person who got access to the data was the researcher who brought the leak to its attention.
The data exposed reported included names, addresses, phone numbers and account PINS. With this data, a hacker might be able to access or change account information online. If you’re a Verizon customer you may want to change your account PIN just to be on the safe side.
