Anker makes some of the best external battery packs on the market, hands down. Back when I played Pokémon Go, I was never without my Anker PowerCore+ 26800 Portable Battery Pack. Nowadays, I tend to carry lighter battery packs, and my current favorite is Anker’s latest, the PowerCore II Slim.
Boasting 10,000mAh of juice, the PowerCore II Slim by Anker is pretty much everything that you could want out of a super slim battery pack at an affordable price. Currently on Amazon for $34.99, the battery pack it slimmer than all of Anker’s previous battery packs but don’t’ let it’s sleeker profile fool you into thinking it doesn’t pack features you’d expect from the company. With a high-capacity charger like the PowerCore II, you get over three solid charges on an iPhone 7 or two if you have a Galaxy device. I have an iPhone 7 Plus, and from 20% I was able to charge up my device two times before the LED indicator blinked only one light, signifying that there was only 25% battery left in the PowerCore II Slim alone.
I’m usually the only one of my friends who tends to bring a battery pack when we go out, so they attempt to charge their devices from mine, which I usually don’t mind, but with the PowerCore II Slim only having one port, it is a bit of a bummer to only be able to charge one device. Luckily if any of your devices has quick charge 3.0, the PowerCore II Slim does have that functionality courtesy of the IQ Technology that Anker has installed in many of their newer products.
Charging courtesy of USB Type-C it was no surprise Anker would be one of the first devices to embrace allowing Type-C charging for their thinnest new battery pack. With Rubberized grips on the sides there is a single button on the device that toggles the pack to charge your devices, and with indicators beside it, you can tell in 25% increments if the PowerCore II Slim is charged or not.
Aesthetically the PowerCore II Slim is a delight. Its gripper rubber bottom is highlighted by the company’s name which to some might be a bit of a humblebrag, but I actually think it makes the battery pack stand out against the hundreds of other black standard battery packs you will get out there. And with Anker’s reputation online, as well as on countless “What’s In My gadget Bag” videos on YouTube, it’s safe to say Anker takes pride in making quality products that will last over the course of time.
An added bonus is that if you tend to charge your iPhone and battery pack at the same time, Anker’s PowerCore II Slim is able to quickly charge both devices, prioritizing your smart device before charging itself to make sure that you are never without sufficient power.
If you’re looking for a great external battery pack that will get your phone to a usable percentage when you’ve forgotten your power brick at home, the Anker PowerCore II Slim is the one that’ll do the trick.
