If you like the thought of giving someone a gift that they will actually use, one that will continue to bring them pleasure and joy much longer than on the day they open it, you might want to consider giving a subscription to Vellabox.

Vellabox is a subscription-based monthly box that contains small-batch, hand-poured, toxin-free, seasonal candles. There are three subscription level options available:

• Lucerna, a $10 (+ $2 S&H) monthly plan which delivers one 4-ounce candle with about 25 hours of burn time and a surprise gift each month.

• Igris, a $20 (+ $2 S&H) monthly plan which delivers one 8-ounce candle with about 50 hours burn time and a surprise gift each month.

• Vivere, a $30 (free S&H) monthly plan which delivers one 8-ounce candle and one 4-ounce candle with about 75 hours burn time and a surprise gift each month.

As for what the candles are made of, Vellabox says:

Our Vellabox Candle Curator has some strict guidelines that she adheres to when choosing candles to place in the box.  In order to continue along the same health-conscious guidelines the company was built on, we do not place beeswax candles in the box in order to stay as vegan as possible.  A lot of what you’ll find in our box are soy, coconut or vegetable based waxes.  We do not place paraffin candles in the box nor do we allow lead wicks.  When possible, we look for candles scented with 100% essential oils, but will allow for phthalate-free fragrances.

I was sent a sample of the Luxe level box. Inside, I found two burlap wrapped candles and a surprise gift of a bag of caramel flavored half-popped popcorn. The candles smell lovely, and their containers look nice; I tried the half-popped popcorn, and as someone who loves to dig those particular kernels out of the bowl, I was quite pleased. It’s the little things, right?

Once you’ve subscribed, you (or your gift recipient) will receive a monthly box containing whichever level of products you’ve purchased. You’ll be billed for the first box when you sign up, and then you’ll be billed on the first of each following month for that particular month’s box; boxes ship on the 5th.

If you want to cancel at any time — let’s say you only wanted to give the box for three months, then you can simply log into your account and click the Cancel option under your subscriptions.

Vellabox a simple gift, but it is one that I think most people who I know would enjoy receiving. I like that if you go into it with a budget, you can stretch that budget depending upon the level subscription you sign up for. For instance, $120 could be stretched over 12 months, 6 months, or 3 months — depending upon how you wanted to do it.
