One USB multi-device charger is just the same as any other, right? Well, no, not exactly. To start, not all USB chargers are powerful enough to charge more than one tablet at a time. The Punkt. UC 01 USB Desktop Charger, however, is fully capable of charging up to three iPads simultaneously.
The Punkt. UC 01 USB Desktop Charger features three high-power USB ports that are capable of delivering up to 2.5 A each (depending upon your device’s charging requirements) for a total of 7.5 A. Included in the box are the three-port charger, a quick guide, and a 6’5″ long power cord. I like that the cable is so long, as it will be convenient when the place you want to keep the charger isn’t right next to an empty wall socket.
For those who are new to Punkt., their name was taken from the Germanic word for ‘point’ or ‘full stop/period’, so Punkt. is not meant to be a comment on how you’ll feel after buying one of their products, but rather a statement on how their products are built to focus on simplicity, clarity, and focus.
No expense has been spared in the UC 01’s production, from initial specification and design through to the decision to site manufacturing in Europe – specifically the town of Ceggia in northern Italy. It’s a product for people who don’t want to have to worry about running out of charging capacity, and are prepared to pay for exceptional quality. As well as being a strikingly elegant and well-built device, the UC 01 is also the most powerful 3-way USB charger on the market, capable of charging three iPads simultaneously.
The Punkt. UC 01 charger measures approximately 4″ long by 2.75″ wide by 1.3″ tall on the wedged end; it weighs 6.5 ounces. The charger’s body is composed of a texturized matte black plastic, and there is a foam pad on the underside so that it won’t scratch any surface it is set upon.
The three USB ports are on the top of the UC 01 so that they are easy to insert or remove cables one-handed, and the charger is multi-voltage for global use. The UC 01 has thermal cut-out protection to ensure product longevity, and it is heavy enough that it won’t scoot around or tip over. The rim around the three ports is rubberized, so if you jab the charger with your USB cable and miss, you won’t damage your cable.
When you order your Punkt., you have the option of choosing the UC 01 in black, white, or brown, and you can also choose from a European, UK, or USA plug. You also have the option of ordering up to three microUSB or Lightning cables in either 30cm or 50cm; unfortunately, there is no USB Type-C cable offered with this deal, but here’s the thing — if you order right now, you’ll get those cables for free.
Even though there is no doubt in my mind that the UC 01 is well made and very powerful, I was experiencing a little sticker-shock at the $99 price. Sweetening the deal with up to three free cables makes this a fantastic buy.
