Dell XPS 13 Goes on a Diet, and Gets Haute New White Color

Dell has reimagined their popular XPS 13 laptop and it’s more svelte than ever before. To that effect, Dell claims that it’s now the world’s smallest 13-inch laptop. It manages to do this by fitting a 13-inch InfinityEdge display inside an 11 inch frame. Weighing in at just 2.68 lbs, the new XPS 13 for 2018 is indeed smaller, 30% thinner, and lighter than its predecessor. For additional reference, its predecessor weighed about 2.93 lbs with a Quad HD touch display, so it’s shaved off nearly a quarter of a pound.

The Dell XPS 13 is now available in a fashion inspired dazzling white / rose gold color, which we’re particularly fond of. More specifically it is available in a rose gold machined aluminum with an alpine white woven glass fiber palm rest. But this isn’t just a simple paint job – Dell used a new crystalline silica material with the white color woven in, just like a fabric, in nine composite layers. Dell says that they are the first to use this woven glass fiber in a laptop. The coating is even stain-resistant to prevent yellowing and staining over time. To complete the look, the’ve designed matching white power cords and a matching white USB-A/USB-C adapter.

The XPS 13 can be configured with a top of the line 13.3-inch UltraSharp 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) InfinityEdge touch display. The system can also be configured with up to a 1TB SSD, an Intel Quad Core i7 8550U processor, and 16GB of Dual Channel SDRAM.

On the battery front, Dell says that the laptop can last for a whopping 19 hours, 46 minutes of battery life. That is some impressive specs on paper, but we won’t believe it till we’ve tried it ourselves. We did, however, get to hold and touch the new XPS 13 and can testify that it is indeed beautiful and incredibly petite.

Pricing for the Dell XPS 13 will start at $999. Dell will also be offering an Ubuntu-based developer edition of the XPS 13 with Linux preloaded, starting at $949.99. The Ubuntu model will be available beginning January 4th on Dell.com. This model will be available in both the U.S. and Europe.
