From the start of the Chromebook phenomena, HP has been a major player. With the arrival of CES 2018, the company has announced two new Chromebooks. One is hitting the consumer market but is also targeted for enterprise, while the second is specifically targeted for board education; both will be available this February.

The HP Chromebook 14 G5 is a Chromebook that’s “elegant, effortless, and ready for the enterprise.” The HP Chromebook 14 G5 is designed for speed thanks to 7th Gen Intel processors, memory to 8 GB, and eMMc storage to 64 GB. That means you can quickly launch apps and browse the web. The technology improvements result in the ability to efficiently manage battery life while still getting up to a 26% performance improvement over the prior generation.

From HP:

Lighten your load. Meet everyday challenges head on and retain focus with a quiet, lightweight, <19mm thin Chrome-book that has a pick- and minor spill-resistant keyboard and is designed to pass MIL-STD 810G.

Because this Chromebook is intended for enterprise, it is “cleared to collaborate” thanks to a design that lies flat, a wide-angle HD webcam and an echo-canceling mic that lets an entire room be part of the conversation.

There is an optional FHD IPS touchscreen available that makes it ideal for use with Android apps.

Specifications:

  • Intel Celeron processors N3350, N34502
  • Less than 18.5 mm thin
  • Memory up to 8 GB
  • Storage up to 64 GB3

The HP Chromebook 11 G6 Education Edition is, as the name indicates, targeted to education. Thanks to co-molded rubber contact points, a strengthened corner design, and 180° hinge this is a rugged Chromebook you can give to students and be confident it will “survive” the experience of young hands. It is only <19mm thin, yet it is still designed to pass MIL-STD 810G.

As HP notes:

Speed through classwork and assignments. Quickly launch apps, support fast web browsing, efficiently manage battery power, and get up to a 26% performance improvement with the latest multi-core 7th Gen Intel processors, memory up to 8 GB, and eMMc storage up to 64 GB.

Inspire learning through collaboration. Collaborate easily with an optional HD IPS touchscreen and 180° hinge that lies completely flat for engaging group discussions. Stay connected in large spaces with 2×2 802.11ac6 wireless.

The Chromebook offers universal connectivity and charging with USB-CTM. Plus, you can dock the Chromebook for port and device connectivity or for use with a USB-CTM display for large-screen productivity.

Specifications:

  • Intel Celeron processors N3350, N34503
  • Less than 18.5 mm thin
  • Weighs 2.8 lbs
  • Memory up to 8 GB
  • Storage up to 64 GB4

Both Chromebook will be available next month.
