Just about everything is becoming “smart” and wirelessly connected these days. And now Night Owl, a company that has been very successful in the wired home security camera market, is about to launch a connected smart safe.

These new smart safes – available in three sizes, all connect to an app which notifies owners when the safe is moved, opened or closed, if the battery is low, if the Wi-Fi signal is lost, or if the keypad is touched. But the safes cannot be unlocked with an app because that would be a security risk.

In addition to the benefits of being alerted to the safe’s activity, should you lose your key, you can use the app to verify your identity and order a replacement key. This is a much more efficient process for replacing a key than what you can expect with traditional safes.

A representative from Night Owl told us that subsequent safe models will be available with video recording, which should be especially useful.

Night Owl’s Smart Connected Safes will also come without monthly fees. The safes will go on sale in Q3 this year.
