If you’re looking for a smarter way to get around town, whether it’s a coffee run or commuting to the train, the Swagtron Swagger 5 smart electric scooter is the way to get there. Featuring a powerful motor, app integration via Bluetooth, and a folding design, the Swagger 5 checks all the boxes. Head over to Swagtron.com to get yours.

With a sleek black body and white accents and branding, the Swagger 5 looks awesome on the street. It’s got 8.5” inflated rubber tires that create a smooth ride over rough surfaces and adds a bit of toughness to the look of the scooter. The aluminum frame folds for easy storage or carrying, although it’s a bit heavier than I had hoped it would be. There’s an integrated bar-mounted LED display that tells you your current speed, battery level, and headlight and Bluetooth status.

The 250W motor allows you to travel up to 18 mph or 29km/h up to 11 miles/17.7km thanks to the high-capacity lithium-ion battery. With regenerative breaking built into the front hub, similar to hybrid cars, you can stretch out that battery capacity even farther. Efficiency is the name of the game when you’re riding an electric scooter. To keep yourself visible, even during night rides, there are a built-in headlight and brake lights.

Swagtron has released an iOS and Android app that pairs with the Swagger 5 to give you even more control. Pair your smartphone with the Swagger 5 via Bluetooth and you can use the include smartphone mount to turn your phone into a real-time dashboard. You can use the app to activate cruise control, select your speed, plan your route with GPS, control the headlight, and more. The app also adds a theft-deterrent lock and alarm mode.

I had a great time testing out the Swagger 5 around our neighborhood. The LED display is a killer feature, as it allows you to check out your speed as well as keep track of the battery capacity so you don’t get stranded. The cell phone mount is also nice because it allows you to use your phone as an additional display with added features.

I was able to reach speeds up to about 18mph, which felt really fast, but the scooter felt steady and secure. My only complaint is that the 250W motor is not strong enough to get me up the hills in my neighborhood. The scooter is great when you’re on flat roads but struggles going uphill.

The braking on the scooter feels strong and smooth and the brake light is another great feature at night to ensure cars see you and share the road. The deck of the scooter is rubberized and textured so I never felt like my feet were accidentally going to slip off.

With tons of technologically advanced features, the $399 Swagger 5 from Swagtron is a great scooter for your commuting or cruising needs. With fast speeds, long battery life, regenerative braking, and LED display, Bluetooth connectivity, and a headlight, the Swagger 5 is leaps and bounds above the competition. As long as you plan on using it on fairly flat roads, you’re going to love it.

You can purchase your Swagger 5 directly from Swagtron at Swagtron.com.

I'm an architect by trade, but the overarching theme of my life has always been trying to keep up with the newest, coolest technology. Ever since I picked up an NES controller, I've been hooked on the latest and greatest gadgets, gizmos, and toys. Whether it's gaming, mobile phones, and accessories, or PCs and Apple products, I'm interested. I use many Apple products in my daily life, such as the iPhone, iPad, and my MacBook Pro. I've also built a few PCs in my day, so I'd like to say that I'm a pretty well-rounded techie.
