The big iPhone XS Max release day has come and gone. From the looks of my local stores, both Apple and cell carrier, the majority of people either waited or bought their phones online. Online orders placed today for iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max have even become available for in-store pickup.
This was one of the smoother Apple launch days I remember although honestly, it seems each year gets a little less crazy as smartphone choices expand and online pre-ordering becomes a more prevalent option.
So my next question is what to use as a case?
My iPhone XS Max arrived right on time via UPS on Friday, and while I swore that my $299 AppleCare+ insurance was going to be my case, I just couldn’t resist a trip to the local Apple store last night to review their new iPhone XS Max case selection.
I walked out with this $39 OtterBox Traction Series Case for iPhone XS Max.
The case comes in red (looks pink to me), navy, black and blue.
Because my iPhone XS Max is space grey, I picked the black OtterBox Traction.
It has a clear back (aka fingerprint magnet).
The bottom speaker and power holes line up perfectly. I wouldn’t expect any less with an Apple exclusive case.
For the $39 that Apple charges for the OtterBox Traction I think it’s a good choice. Feels good in the hand, not too bulky, doesn’t add any weight, buttons very easy to press. I liked that I could stop by my local Apple store, take the case out of the box and try it before buying. When ready I used the Apple Store app to purchase instantly (no waiting or doing laps in the Apple store to find a salesperson!).
This OtterBox model (here) appears to be an Apple store exclusive so you’ll have to order online — or even better stop by Apple and try before you buy.
