Data has become a modern-day currency of sorts, and in some cases is valued more than money itself. This type of data must be protected but it has not always been easy (or economical) to do so for the individual. The new diskAshur2 portable solid-state drives from iStorage can provide this security easily and affordably.

In technical terms, diskAshur2 employs AES-XTS 256-bit hardware encryption to secure all data on the drive in real-time using FIPS PUB 197 validated encryption algorithm. It is PIN authenticated and is protected from any type of hacking attempt and even physical attack. It is water and dust resistant and utilizes USB 3.1 data transfer protocol for transfer speeds up to 294 MBps read and 319 MBps write while being backward compatible with previous USB protocols.

The diskAshur2 SSD devices are pocket-sized and feature a built-in USB cable and the case also includes a desk lock slot. No additional software or drivers are needed and the device is OS and platform independent. The keyboard is epoxy coated and wear resistant and is offered in a choice of Phantom Black, Ocean Blue, Fiery Red, and Racing Green. Storage capacity ranges from 500GB to 5TB.

On receiving the test unit, I sent it into Brute Force Hack Defense mode without really even trying. I did not follow the startup directions carefully enough and the diskAshur2 went into lockdown mode before I knew it. A quick perusal of the online manual showed where I erred and provided reset instructions as all data on the drive had been wiped out. Unit worked like a champ before I even know what was going on. Once I got things back up and operating normally the little SSD worked perfectly and data transfers were lightning quick. The unit is very lightweight as well so no added fatigue if being carried in a backpack or computer bag all day. It is rugged, well-built, and, as I found out, secure as Fort Knox.

Pricing for the diskAshur2 SSD devices begins at $195.99 at Amazon [affiliate link]. More information can be found at www.istorage-uk.com.
