When it comes to wireless sport headphones, there are three essential features. First, the headphones need to stay in while running. Second, the headphones need to be water resistant. Third, they need to sound great. Jaybird knocks it out of the park with their new X4 wireless headphones. Retailing for $129.99, the X4 checks all of the boxes and more.

Jaybird’s X4 wireless headphones have an 8-hour battery life so you’re ready for all of life’s adventures without needing to stop to recharge. They’re also IPX-7 waterproof rated, so they can be exposed to a lot of rain and sweat without sustaining any damage. Another neat feature of the X4s is that you can customize your sound experience using the Jaybird app.

With the Jaybird MySound app, you’re able to customize your EQ settings, allowing you to pump up the bass for your run. You can also download EQ settings of your favorite athletes and artists. Plus, you can play music via Spotify Premium through the Jaybird app.

The headphones come with a built-in controller that contains three buttons and the microphone. The three buttons can control volume, play/pause, and accepting/hanging up on phone calls.

The first time I slipped the Jaybird X4s into my ears, I knew they weren’t going anywhere. That’s because Jaybird includes a number of fittings that allows you to customize the fit for however you prefer to wear your headphones. The X4s come with two different types of ear tips, soft rubber ear tips in small and large, and soft foam tips in small and large. The X4s also come with three different sizes of soft rubber ear fins that fit nicely inside your ear to hold the headphones in place.

These Jaybirds also come with a charge cradle with USB cable, a shirt clip, a cord since, and a nice carrying pouch. The USB charging cradle is a nice touch, as it clips onto the headphones securely and makes sure the charging contacts are properly aligned. This way, the X4 remains waterproof without a real USB jack. The carrying pouch is also key as it helps you take along your headphones and charging cradle with you everywhere.

While using the Jaybirds, I noticed one thing over almost everything else; that the Jaybirds weren’t going anywhere. With the perfectly sized ear fittings and ear fins, the X4s seemed almost glued to my ears. The sound quality is also excellent. Speed is very clear while listening to podcasts and music sounds fantastic. Plus, if you get the headphones to fit just right, which is definitely possible thanks to all the fitting options, you can also get some “noise cancellation” going on since it blocks out a lot of the ambient noise.

The two 6mm drivers really pack a punch and can get very loud. The clarity of sound is outstanding and I was never able to get to a point where the sound got distorted. The lithium-ion is slated to last about 8 hours and only takes about 2 hours to fully charge. I can attest to the 8-hour battery life, as I was able to use it for almost a full week on my commute in and out of NYC.

If you’re in the market for a great pair of wireless sport headphones for working out, getting active, or even for commuting, the Jaybird X4 is an excellent option. I honestly could not come up with any downsides.

Ever since I picked up an NES controller, I've been hooked on the latest and greatest gadgets, gizmos, and toys. Whether it's gaming, mobile phones, and accessories, or PCs and Apple products, I'm interested. I use many Apple products in my daily life, such as the iPhone, iPad, and my MacBook Pro. I've also built a few PCs in my day, so I'd like to say that I'm a pretty well-rounded techie.
