Beyerdynamic has just introduced the Phonum, a wireless Bluetooth and USB Speakerphone that the company promises will give you high-quality sound at an affordable price.

The Phonum by beyerdynamic is a three lithium-ion battery-powered proprietary speaker that the brand says will work great for mobile conferences over the internet. As a podcaster, I know this would be great for contacting guests and having conference calls, but the Phonum is so much more. Operating through Bluetooth, the Phonum works not just with a PC or Mac, but with your smartphone or tablet.

This is great for frequent travelers who need to enhance a call, regardless of the size of the room. Featuring a USB port for applications with poor radio communication like Skype, you can teleconference with up to eight people with three different microphone modes, including omnidirectional, cardioid and even beamforming. Beamforming is a new mode that automatically adjusts the microphone in the direction of the person speaking, and something I truly look forward to using often.

Beyerdynamic’s Phonum is slated to last twelve hours on a full charge, but can also be charged through the USB port. You can operate the Phonum with it’s touch sensors, giving you the ability to accept or end calls, increase volume, select modes and patterns, or even mute the microphone if needed. It comes complete with a hard case for traveling on the go, and a USB Type-C cable for charging and connecting to external devices.
