TIDAL’s Master’s Finally Arrives, Adding High Fidelity MQA to iOS

If you happen to be a user of TIDAL and happen to have an Apple Device, you’ve probably been excited about the teasers TIDAL has released over the past few months regarding the upcoming ability to listen to Master-quality audio through the streaming service. And today the feature finally arrives!

TIDAL's Master's Finally Arrives, Adding High Fidelity MQA to iOS

Via an update in the App Store, in partnership with MQA (Master Quality Authenticated), TIDAL finally delivers Master quality music through iPhone devices — much to my personal delight. Using a process that the company calls ‘Music Origami’, TIDAL users can now listen to studio quality sound directly from their smartphone. The MQA-built technology folds master files into smaller files that can be streamed on the go. Using a decoder within the app, it recovers all of the music information and authenticates the source of the master recording giving you more of a premium listening experience.

Mike Jbara, MQA CEO, commented, “From our ongoing work with engineers and artists, we know the importance creators place on delivering the original sound they created all the way to the music fan. Through our global partnership with TIDAL, this becomes a reality wherever you’re enjoying your music.”

TIDAL’s plans have not changed, with the HiFi subscription costing $19.99 a month, with a lower tier that maxes out streaming quality at 320kbps for $9.99 a month. You can find a list of all of the compatible tracks and playlists that work with Tidal Masters by visiting this link today.
