Plant a Tree and Get a Cable, Thanks to Nomad

The other day, I read a report that suggested reforestation on a grand scale could be the best way to address climate disruption. At the time, I thought it would be great if billionaires and companies could get behind this. Nomad has done just that, and  both consumers and the planet will benefit.Plant a Tree and Get a Cable, Thanks to Nomad

The promotion is simple. Each customer who makes a donation to Carbon Fund will get one of Nomad’s awesome USB to Lightning cables. It’s simple. It’s straightforward. And it is worth taking part. Here are the details.

The Cable:

Nomad makes some of the best cables on the market. Fact is, Nomad cables are pretty much the only ones I use these days. In this case, Nomad is offering their 1.5m USB to Lightning cable which they describe as:

The one cable to bring on high adventure trips. The outer shield is constructed from high end TPE, the same material used for audio cables for electric guitars. Not only does this create a unique feel for the cable, it provides durability unmatched by other charging cables. The distinct texture of this cable gives it a rugged edge over other charging cables. We use this cable when things get dirty; like when backpacking, out on extended photo-shoots, and as an emergency cable in the bottom of our ditch bag.

The cables are “Flex tested” 10,000 times to military standards. The result is a cable that will outlast most anything else on the market.

And while they may look simple from the outside, there’s a lot going on within this seemingly basic cable. It has a polymide central core, a thick moisture barrier and a flexible outer PE jacket. In addition it has RF shielding for clean, fast syncing and is cable of handling fast charging of your devices.

In addition, each cable comes with Nomad’s oh-so-awesome silicons cable tie. I love these Liquid Silicone Cable ties and appreciate the way they help me keep unused cables from becoming a tangled mess.

Finally, when selecting a cable you have a choice as to whether or not it includes protective rubber caps. As Nomad explains:

Our caps are designed to keep out dirt and grime to ensure a long life for the lightning and USB tips, no matter where you take the cable.

So the cables Nomad is offering as part of this wonderful promotion are

  • 10K Mil-spec flex tested
  • Apple MFi approved
  • Have a chemically resistant PVC Jacket
  • Come with a cable tie
  • Come with optional protective caps
  • Have a three year warranty

In short,

The Rugged Cable is ready to take on any adventure. Trek through dirt and mud with this cable and expect the USB and Lightning ends to be completely clean and ready to use.

The Promotion:

For each donation of $5 or more, Nomad will plant trees and send a cable your way. A $5 donation will result in five trees being planted. A $10 donation will yield ten trees. And, as you might have figured, a $25 donation will result in twenty five trees being planted.

Nomad has even pledged to make the shipping carbon neutral. (Shipping is a few dollars and will be added to the cart at checkout.) Perhaps most worthy of note, Nomad will donate 100% of the proceeds from this campaign and will make zero dollars in the process. That’s zero as in zilch, nada, klum going to Nomad but with countless trees being planted. That’s a win-win for the planet and for us.

The donations are going to Carbonfund.org. The organization is:

leading the fight against global warming, making it easy and affordable for any individual, business or organization to reduce & offset their climate impact and hasten the transition to a clean energy future. Nomad has chosen to focus your donations to fighting deforestation in Brazil. Deforestation is responsible for about 20% of global warming. Reforestation is a critical part of the solution.

Why does all this matter? Why should planting trees be a top priority for us all? It’s quite simple. Trees absorb carbon dioxide which helps counter climate disruption. They improve air quality, preserve biodiversity, control flooding by limiting runoff and topsoil loss, and provide protection and food for animals. In the process, additional trees translate into additional jobs in tree nurseries and forest management.

Every dollar donated through this campaign will plant a tree in Acre, a region of Brazil. This particular region is currently in the throws of major deforestation and planting trees will help counter what is already occurring as a shockingly fast rate. Considering the fact that every ten trees he help plant will captures close to one ton of C02. That’s a big deal.
