MediaTek and Intel Connect to Bring 5G to Laptops

5G is the next big thing in wireless, and everyone is looking forward to fast speeds and angry Nextdoor conspiracy theory posts. MediaTek is on it (the speeds, not the conspiracy theories), and they’re partnering with Intel to deploy 5G modems for laptops. So far, HP and Dell are slated to be among the first rolling out the new modems in early 2021, so keep your eyes peeled.

Our 5G modem for PCs, developed in partnership with Intel, is integral to making 5G accessible and available across home and mobile platforms. 5G will usher in the next era of PC experiences, and working with Intel, an industry leader in computing, highlights MediaTek’s expertise in designing 5G technology for global markets. With this partnership, consumers will be able to browse, stream and game faster on their PCs, but we also expect them to innovate with 5G in ways we have not yet imagined. – Joe Chen, MediaTek President

Soon you’ll be streaming Netflix faster on your cell connection than you will from the WiFi at Starbucks. MediaTek has crammed a shocking amount of tech into these tiny chips; look for them in your next computer!
