Comcast Xfinity Beefs up Speed and Security in 2020

Internet went from being something you dialed into when your parents didn’t need the phone line to a utility on par with electricity and water. It feels like everything in the home requires an internet connection! Xfinity is rolling out advanced WiFi gateways as well as more security for all those connected devices.

The xFi Advanced Gateway will be available to Xfinity customers in 2020, bringing multi-gigabit speed; this means it will be easier to stream videos, game online, and connect your fridge, oven, nightstand, and sneakers to your home network without bogging it down. No one wants to see their Netflix start buffering while they binge The Crown just because the dishwasher needed to phone home for an update.

Of course, all these connected devices means more potential for nefarious elements to slip by. xFi Advanced Security is going to become a free addition to regular Xfinity service (Comcast says this is a $72 value). This monitors for threats and can alert you if something seems off with your network, adding another layer of defense. All jokes about connected home aside, this is something everyone should aim to have on their home internet because no matter how vigilant you are as an individual, it’s helpful to add another layer of security. Better to be safe than find someone chatting up your mailman through your Ring doorbell!

If you’re an Xfinity customer in 2020, get ready for an upgraded and safer internet experience!
