I sing the praises of my Aftershokz Air headphones to everyone I know. Every athlete should have them for times they want music but need to be aware of their surroundings. Aftershokz is constantly improving its bone conduction technology, and its latest headphones are the new Aftershokz Aeropex!
Bone conduction sounds intimidating, but it’s actually really simple. The headphones contain special transducers that vibrate against your cheekbones, bypassing your eardrums but allowing you to experience music. The result is that you hear your music, but your ears are open and free to hear other people around you, cars, dogs, and all manner of things that might catch you off guard. As I said, I love my Air headphones, but up until now the tradeoff to open ear bone conduction was that you gave up some musical fidelity.
Aftershokz says they’ve cracked that with their new Aeropex, which uses micro-magnets and allows for less sound leaking and better bass and sound quality. In addition, they’ve added waterproofing and promise an 8-hour battery life with clear voice quality for calls as well. At $159.95, these aren’t cheap. But if they’re anything like the Air, you can expect long battery life, excellent build quality, and a solid pair of headphones you’ll use for years!
