While we have been quarantining in our homes for the past few weeks, August has developed a more streamlined version of their smart lock, that not only looks better but adds a bit more functionality from their previous models.
Sporting an updated design created by Co-Founder Yves Béhar, the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock is 45% smaller and 20% slimmer than the August Smart Lock Pro. As someone who previously used the August Lock Pro a few years back, I look forward to the updates they have in store. The lock was a bit cumbersome for smaller hands such as my wife in previous models, so I’m hoping the smaller August lock makes it look more like a legitimate smart lock and not like a toy. The ability to Auto-Lock/Unlock is something I’ve longed for especially as someone who tends to hate digging for their keys after they go exercising and typically has their phone in hand. More importantly for families or people with homes, this is a great way to let the in-laws, cleaning companies, and more into your home with just a press of your smartphone.
Also the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock comes complete with Apple’s HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant which works with virtually all smart home assistants. I welcome the idea of cross-platform compatibility, and the fact that August is set on being the BEST in the market by taking their time to perfect their products makes me believe when my wife and I get our home later this year, the August Lock will be the smart lock we end up going with.
