It feels like we’ve been hearing about 5G forever, but it’s for-real happening, and we’re going to be getting all sorts of awesome devices zipping YouTube to us faster than ever. And, sure, we also need connectivity for remote work. But also TikTok. Anyway, Qualcomm is already on their 2nd generation of 5G PC chips, being rolled out this year with Acer!

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G compute platform (try saying THAT 5x fast) is designed to make working on the go faster and more efficient. They are aiming for a 50% speedier experience with a less thirsty battery than competing chipsets, but that’s not the only highlight of this new platform. The chips will also use Qualcomm Aqstic echo cancellation, so your video chats won’t include everyone saying “hey, do you hear an echo, or is it on my end?” The new Snapdragon 8cx will also support high-resolution cameras, so your Zoom calls will look better than anyone else’s. Behind the scenes, the new chips will offer enough power to support even more AI features, and the always-on connection allows for IT to keep security patches up to date.

We’ll soon see the 8cx in the Acer Spin 7, which will be the world’s first Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 notebook “supporting both 5G mmWave and sub-6 frequencies, enabling users to stay connected on-the-go and harness the blazing speeds of 5G. Giving users the best of both worlds, the new Acer Spin 7 is a convertible notebook featuring a 360-degree hinge that enables users to take advantage of a variety of form factors.”

Basically, laptops rocking the new Snapdragon 8cx will be fast, connected, and ready for anything, anywhere. The only downside? With those high-res cameras, you’ll have to make sure you’re wearing a nice shirt for video conferences!
