The Lowdown

Exclusive to the ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO N8 Pro Plus, the TrueDetect function is a 3D obstacle avoidance system that uses structured light technology to detect, avoid and clean around furniture; in practice, though, this can be hit or miss. It notices area rugs like a champ (ours personally have stitched ends which help with this) but had a bit of an issue with the cables laying under our couch.

Overall
4.5

Pros

  • Will spot clean the hell out of a hone
  • Mopping functionality essentially replaced my Swiffer
  • Vacuum suction is better than any I’ve tried before
  • Auto-empty station that can go months without needing emptying

Cons

  • A larger collection bin for dust and debris so there is less returning to the auto-empty station mid-cleaning

Over the past few years, I’ve personally reviewed so many robot vacuums that I’ve truly lost count. But there’s one constant brand that, no matter what new products they unveil, seem to push the envelope in innovation, and that brand is ECOVACS. The latest ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO N8 Pro Plus is pretty amazing.

ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO N8 Pro Plus

ECOVACS latest is their DEEBOT N-Series, highlighted by the N8+ and the N8 Pro+. Both robot vacs promise unmatched features that you can’t readily get from some other brand in your local brick and mortar.

It’s been a few years since robot vacs made first became trendy, to which many might pose a question of what makes these two models different from others?

Well, for starters, the ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO N8 Pro Plus boasts an insane amount of suction power with 2600 Pa suction power to remove all of the dirt and debris in your house while the ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO N8 Plus has 2300 Pa, which is still not too shabby.

The ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO N8 Pro Plus keeps amazing me with its ability to find items that my traditional broom and mop cannot reach or grab without constantly going over the surface to pick them up.

Anyone who has hardwood floors knows how they are absolute dust magnets, and that’s certainly the case in my home with two ladies and a dog whose thin and tiny hairs randomly pop up in hard-to-reach corners after shaking himself off post-walk.

The ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO N8 series has a new glass fiber motor design to keep the noise down when it cleans and sucks up everything in sight. Both models in the N8 series have dToF sensors and LIDAR laser. The ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO N8 Pro Plus also has ‘TrueMapping’ technology, which they state can provide nearly two times greater accuracy than their previous models.

Our apartment is a testament to the ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO N8 Pro Plus’s abilities; we not only have plenty of awkward corners in our home, but there are raised entryways to the bedrooms, our kitchen island stools having rounded yet slightly raised legs, and there is an abundance of baby items to get around, including a huge walled playpen for our daughter. The ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO N8 Pro Plus manages to maneuver around all of this effectively.

ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO N8 Pro Plus

When attempting to vacuum up while cables are laid on the floor, the ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO N8 Pro Plus does notice them, but only in very close proximity, or a the point it’s rolling over them.

This can be a bit worrisome if you have lighting fixtures plugged in, and the vacuum travels off with the cable after getting caught dragging the cord around. Luckily the object detection kicks in quickly and notices when it’s onboarded foreign objects that are too big for its internal chamber; it will beep to alert you that something’s wrong.

With the ECOVACS app, you’ll not only get notification of this, but you’ll be able to assign different cleaning modes and avoidance areas (after the initial 1-2 run-throughs to map out your home).

These boundaries are great for dog crates if you want to run the ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO N8 Pro Plus while you are at work and do not want to startle your pup. Still, it’s especially nice if your home has steps, and you don’t want to come home to a vacuum that decided it wanted to leap down a flight of stairs.

ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO N8 Pro Plus

I’m historically lazy when it comes to emptying previous robot vacuums, so if you’re like me, you’ll love that both ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO N8 models come with an auto-empty station that can go months without needing cleaning.

They also have nifty hypo-allergenic dust bags that auto-seal so no dust clouds end up floating around your home, eventually hitting the ground and defeating the purpose. This is ideal for house and apartment dwellers who deep clean one day a week and would like a bit of help doing things between those deep cleans.

Like I’ve said before, robot vacuums are better at light regular cleaning versus being a replacement for full-size vacuums and mops, so I heavily suggest doing your due diligence before pressing start on your ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO N8 series and expecting it to do the heavy lifting for you.

By doing this, you’ll have a longer life expectancy for the DEEBOT N8 and fewer chances it will try to pick up something that could get stuck in its chamber or its removable brush head.

With a total runtime of 110 minutes, you can essentially set & forget the ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO N8 Pro Plus for a Smart-Charge Continuous Cleaning that essentially will dock itself when it runs out of battery. Once charged back up, it will finish the job from the point it left off.

I’ve noticed that the 110 mark can vary for our home depending on if the ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO N8 Pro Plus is mopping or vacuuming. While the N8 does include OZMO’s Mopping System that boasts electronic water flow control, it’s smart enough to know the difference between hardwood/tile and carpet — which in my opinion, is worth every penny.

Not once have I had a wet floor or soggy carpet after cleaning, thanks to the ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO N8 Pro Plus being able to be a broom, a (spot cleaning) vacuum, and a Swiffer simultaneously.

Overall I’m always amazed to see what ECOVACS does. Still, the ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO N8 Pro Plus has truly wowed me with its leap in innovation and how it effortlessly reaches places another robot vac cannot.

If I had a single “con” for the device, it would be that the robot vac’s inner chamber doesn’t hold much. You shouldn’t expect it to clean an entire apartment without its chamber filling, so if you have a home, expect it to auto-empty at least twice before completely cleaning — especially if you have people or animals who happen to shed hair like it’s nobody’s business.

The ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO N8 Pro Plus sells for $699.99; it is available exclusively from Amazon. The ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO N8 (2300Pa suction and no TrueDetect 3D obstacle avoidance) sells for $599.99; it is available directly from the manufacturer.

  1. would be useful to clean house

  2. I like the 110 minutes of runtime, which seems like more than enough time to get a decent amount of cleaning done. Thanks!

  3. We have raised entryways in six of the eight interior doorways in our apartment, and in one of the remaining two, there’s a half-inch drop from one room to another. This would seem to limit the usefulness of current robot vacuums for us.

  4. Technology’s come a long way since these first hit the market. Still haven’t pulled the trigger on a purchase, but definitely would love to own one. This one sounds capable!

I could really use this! With a dog and a cat who both shed like crazy, I’m vacuuming every other day to try and clean up with their hair and dirt that they bring into the house. A little worrisome about how often it may have to return to the home base for emptying the dust bin, but I could deal with that if I didn’t have to vacuum!

  6. This would be a great time saver in the midst of remote work and caring for the kids
