The folks at TCL make excellent devices. We’ve been impressed in the past by their phones and televisions, and they’re kicking things to the next level at MWC with new phones, new software, and some very cool NXTWEAR G immersive video glasses!

NXTWEAR G Immersive Video Glasses

NXTWEAR G Immersive Video Glasses

TCL teased that they were working on wearable display glasses, and this is the first time we’re getting a really good look at them. The NXTWEAR G immersive video glasses are effectively an extension of your smartphone’s screen. You plug in your phone (or compatible tablet or computer), and suddenly, instead of your tiny phone display, you’re looking at the equivalent of a 140″ display with a 16×9 aspect ratio!

The glasses will be able to accommodate glasses wearers, and TCL says the glasses are designed with an open fit, so you have some peripheral vision. However, tossing these on while you’re flying is more likely to make you look like you’re rocking sunglasses indoors rather than a lost extra from an 80’s movie that tried to predict the future of virtual reality.

These are coming first to Australia (lucky Australians!) before moving to other countries later this year. No pricing is available yet.

Multi-Screen Collaboration

Multi-Screen Collaboration is a fancy way of saying TCL is envisioning a world where your work follows you from screen to screen. You can start on your phone, plug it into your NXTWEAR, then connect your phone to a laptop or tablet to continue your work. On paper, it’s brilliant and likely where we’re all headed in the next few years with how fast technology is evolving, so while this is a relatively new feature, it’s definitely something to watch!

Alcatel 1L Pro

Alcatel 1L Pro

The Alcatel 1L Pro is a budget phone with big ambitions. It sports a 6.1″ screen, a 13-megapixel AI camera, HDR for both the front and rear cameras, and Android 11 Go Edition. You also get 32GB internal storage and up to 128GB of expanded storage via a microSD card. It will hit Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa this September, starting at 2699MXN (about $127USD with today’s exchange rates).

Sometimes, you just need a basic smartphone. The Alcatel 1 sports a 5″ screen, Android 11 Go Edition, and Smart Manager to keep apps running smoothly. Most importantly, it is set to hit Europe and Latin America in August, starting at only  €59 (about $70USD with today’s exchange rates).

MOVETIME Family Watch 2

MOVETIME Family Watch 2

The MOVETIME Family Watch 2 is a step before entrusting a child with a smartphone. It has a camera, kid-friendly UI, location tracking, geofencing, and the ability to make 4 G-enabled video and voice calls. It will hit Europe in mid-August, starting at €149.

TCL LINKHUB 5G outdoor CPE

TCL LINKHUB 5G outdoor CPE

There’s nothing worse than looking at a coverage map and being just outside of 5G coverage. Well, there are lots of things worse, but that’s still an annoying circumstance. TCL is working with high-gain antennas to get 5G to people’s homes more efficiently, and that’s a great thing for everyone! The TCL LINKHUB 5G outdoor CPE is designed to survive as cold as -40°C all the way up to +55°C. That’s colder than Siberia and hotter than Death Valley, so unless you need 5G on either Pluto or Mercury, chances are the LINKHUB can handle it.

TCL is busy with new products and ideas, and they’re pushing the envelope in displays, how we interact with our screens, and what it means to be a “budget” device. Many exciting new products are coming out, so keep an eye out for what TCL Mobile does next!

  1. The video glasses look like ordinary sunglasses in the photo where they’re sitting on the table, but they don’t seem to fit like ordinary sunglasses in the photo where the woman is wearing them. This will be something to watch as TCL tells us more about them (including the price.)
