The Lowdown

We’ve reviewed numerous portable vapes and have enjoyed watching this market mature, but this one is something special. The AirVape X is small, heats quickly thanks to conduction heating, and uniformly thanks to convection heating, and is pocketable. It takes just an hour to charge, and we haven’t had the battery run down on us mid-us. The inclusion of the X Shell in the box lets you carry the vape discretely.

When you pull out the AirVape X, we suspect you will continually marvel at its sleek, refined design. I know we do.

Overall
4.5

Pros

  • Gorgeous
  • Simple controls
  • No companion app
  • Employs dual-heating technology
  • Included X Shell is a smell-proof way to protect the vape
  • Can be used with flower or concentrates

Cons

  • It still uses a legacy microUSB charging port

We’ve reviewed numerous portable vaporizers, but few, if any, have the style and refinement of the AirVape X. The $139 vape is available in your choice of black or blue and, despite the affordable price, is packed with the latest technology. High-grade materials, state-of-the-art heating technology, and a lifetime warranty make this a great option.

As you will see, the design and finish of the AirVape are rather spectacular. If we didn’t know any better, we might think it was Apple’s take on the portable vape; it is that impressive. But we are getting ahead of ourselves.

AirVape X

The AirVape X comes packed in a simple cardboard box. The understated design belies the refinement of its contents.

AirVape X is the most portable option to vaporize substance with its perfectly designed pocket fit and the vibrating function discretely warns you when X reached the temperature and when the automatic shutoff timer goes off.

AirVape X

Opening the box reveals the AirVape X safely protected in the included X Shell Case. The XShell is one of the features that make this vape a favorite of ours. More in a bit.

AirVape X

Inside the box, you get the AirVape X, an X Shell case, a concentrates pad insert, a USB Charger Cable, cleaning and loading tools, replacement filter screens
a User Manual and a warranty card. It is a complete package with everything you’ll need other than the flower or oil you plan to use.

The AirVape X is available in your choice of black or blue. We were sent a review sample in blue. We love the bright, metallic finish. It looks stunning.

The metallic mouthpiece is held in place by magnets. It holds itself in place quite nicely but is easy to pop off if the contents need to be stirred or refreshed.

When in place, it sits above the ceramic chamber into which flowers or concentrates are placed. It looks simple, but, as AirVape explains, there’s more going on here than meets the eye.

The perfectly sized, oval-shaped ceramic chamber, plus the compartment underneath that accumulates hot air, serve for extra smooth, original vapor and even heating.

AirVape X

The front of the AirVape X has three buttons. In the center, there is a power button. Five quick presses turn the device on. Another press shuts it off. If you leave it unused for any length of time, the AirVape X automatically shuts itself off.

The buttons to the left and right of the power button control the temperature. The AirVape X doesn’t come with a companion app, and, honestly, that’s one of the things we like about it.

Instead of an app, the vape simply vibrates to let you know it has reached the proper temperature. Simplicity and a terrific vaping experience is the name of the game here. Not having the added complexity of an app helps achieve that goal.

AirVape X

The display is small but easy to read. With just a few button presses, you can get the preferred temperature. We love that the device remembers the last temperature used, so you don’t need to adjust the temperature each time you turn it on.

AirVape X

The back of the AirVape X is an example of beautiful simplicity. There are no buttons, controls, or identifying marks other than the three-petalled vents that aid the AirVape X dual-heating technology.

AirVape X

The only real knock we have against the AirVape X is the use of a micro-USB charger. We appreciate that this device has been on the market for some time, but we can’t help but feel that any product shipping in 2021 with a micro USB is dated.

If you prefer an AirVape vape that is up-to-date, you might want to check out the AirVape Legacy. It not only had USB-C but can also be charged wirelessly. We’ll have a review posted shortly.

AirVape X

Most portable vapes use either conduction or convection technology to heat the substance being turned into vapor. Each has its advantages. As the website, Leafly explains,

Conduction and convection describe heat transfer: conduction is motionless (think metal against metal), whereas convection requires liquid or gas to move the energy (think steam).

Conduction heating uses a metal chamber to heat ground flowers. It heats quickly, but because the material is heated by coming into contact with the metal walls of the heating unit, the burn may be uneven and require occasional stirring.

Convention heating passes hot air over the material and vaporizes it that way. Despite its small size and low price, the AirVape X employs both technologies, so you get the best of both worlds in a vape that reaches temperature in just 20 seconds.

AirVape X

The simplicity of the AirVape X is key to its appeal. You load material into the oval bowl, replace the magnetic cover,  press the button five times, set the desired temperature, and within a few seconds, it is ready to use. There’s no muss, no fuss, and no app to play with. The AirVape X is all about the simplicity of the experience.

AirVape X

Two additional factors make the AirVape X the perfect portable vaporizer for summer. (Fall, winter, and spring too!)

The AirVape X is small and light. It is just over 4″ long, 1.85 ” wide, and under half an inch wide. It weighs just 3.2oz. That makes it small and light enough to take it anywhere discretely.

And because the AirVape X is designed to go with you, the company now includes their X Shell case in the box. (Previously, the X Shell was an added accessory purchase.) The X Shell is smell-proof and water-resistant. More importantly, it gives complete protection to the vape, so it maintains its stunning good looks.
