The Lowdown

The Nomad Leather Loop is an accessory Apple should have included with the purchase of an AirTag. They didn’t, though; thankfully, Nomad stepped in. The Leather Loop makes the AirTag even more expensive, but it is an elegant solution that turns the AirTag into a useful accessory.

Overall

Pros

  • Small and elegant
  • Horween leather looks great and will age well
  • Allows you to replace the battery without the need to remove the AirTag

Cons

  • You shouldn’t need an accessory like this to attach the Apple AirTag to your keyring, but you do

When Apple’s new AirTag’s were released, my Tile Trackers became obsolete. Apple’s approach to locating keys and other everyday daily carries is more tightly integrated with iOS in ways Tile can’t match. But Apple offers no way to attach the pricey trackers to your daily carry. The new Nomad Leather Loop for AirTag elegantly solves that problem.

Apple is charging $29 for a single AirTag, which is rather expensive. The good news is that AirTags have user-replaceable batteries and may outlive the items they are intended to track. The bad news is that the AirTag is a refined circle of metal and plastic with no way to attach to keys, a wallet, or any other item.

In other words, the design of the AirTag immediately created a new market for Apple accessories. The Nomad Leather Loop for AirTag is one of those accessories that make AirTags useful. As Nomad explains:

Keep your AirTag and keychain as slim possible with this ultra-thin leather keychain. Leather Loop for AirTag is a Horween leather loop that attaches to your AirTag with a powerful 3M adhesive, adding just over 2 millimeters of thickness to the AirTag.

Made from Horween leather, the Leather Loop is available in your choice of Black, Rustic Brown, or Natural.

As we have come to appreciate, the Horween leather will age gracefully and, over time, develop a beautiful patina.

Each Nomad Leather Loop for AirTag has a Black, PVD stainless steel keyring permanently affixed. The keyring is thick enough to be strong but has enough “give” that getting your keys onto it is not the struggle you find with many keyrings.

To hold the AirTag in place, the Nomad Leather Loop for AirTag has a 3M adhesive pad on both sides of the leather interior.

To secure the AirTag in place, you simply remove the 3M adhesive, put the AirTag in place between the two sides of the leather, and press down to secure it in place.

Nomad was kind enough to send a review sample in each of the three colors.

I opted to use the black Nomad Leather Loop for AirTag initially since my car’s remote is black. It looks great, but, more importantly, it means I will always be able to find my keys. As someone who misplaces my keys a few times a week, that is no small thing. In fact, when I began writing this review, I couldn’t locate my keys to take a few final pictures.

The FindMy app quickly helped me locate them in the door where I left them.

Leather Loop for AirTag upgrades your everyday carry with a matching Horween leather attachment for AirTag. Designed to keep the powerful location tracking device permanently attached to your keys, Leather Loop ensures that finding your keys in a pinch is as simple as using the native Find My app on your iPhone.

It annoys me that Apple is charging almost $30 for a small accessory with complete knowledge that purchasers will need an additional accessory to actually use it. I am glad, however, that Nomad has released an elegant, minimalist way to take full advantage of the AirTag. The Nomad Leather Loop for AirTag is small and doesn’t call attention to itself.

Easily Replace the Battery:  Leather Loop for AirTag allows you to remove and replace the battery inside your AirTag without needing to remove the Leather Loop from your AirTag. Simply press down with both thumbs and twist counter clockwise.

After releasing the Leather, Loop Nomad got feedback from consumers who didn’t understand how to replace the battery without losing the adhesive grip the 3M has on the AirTag.

Fortunately, the product page includes a simple video showing just how easy it is to do. A quick press followed by a slight twist allows you to access the battery without removing the AirTag from the Leather Loop.

The Nomad Leather Loop for AirTag retails for $24.95; it is available directly from the manufacturer.

  1. Can’t believe something like this not included, but it would be useful for attaching to a wide number of things, especially keys.
