If your home has issues with dust, pollen, pet dander, mold spores, or dust mites, you need an air purifier. And while there are plenty of them on the market, I think you should check out the Shark Air Purifier 6.

Shark Air Purifier 6

Even though I’ve been wearing my mask for the past year when I go outside, I’m still susceptible to indoor allergies in my home during the summer, mostly due to my puppy. The random stuffy nose or the itchy watery eyes can be a pest, and there’s only so much Benadryl I’m willing to take, so when I had the opportunity to check out the Shark Air Purifier 6, I knew for a fact I couldn’t say no.

Air purifiers aren’t going to completely eliminate all particles floating around in your home, but the Shark Air Purifier 6 does a pretty good job. It has an anti-allergen HEPA (High-Efficiency Particle Arrest) filter, so the Shark captures 99.97 percent of microscopic particles 0.3µm and above, including pollen and pollutants.

Cleaning your home with regular dusting and vacuuming can help even more — just make sure your vacuum has a high-grade filter as well so you’re not just kicking particles around, making double work for the Shark Air Purifier!

The Shark Air Purifier 6 is fairly big at 17 x 9 x 32 inches, so I made sure to put it someplace out of the way while still keeping it clear so it could function without obstruction. Shark’s air purifier looks and presents like a standing, non-oscillating fan that is sure to impress your guests, a big upgrade from the clunky and awkward air purifiers I’ve tried in the past.

The Shark Air Purifier 6 (AKA model number HE601) has what’s called Clean Sense IQ that monitors air quality and adjusts its internal power accordingly, then reports back to you instantly through its touchscreen at the top of the device. There’s a readily identifiable set of controls and buttons that allow you to do everything from adjusting the fan speed, down to the duration of time you’d like the unit to run.

The Air Purifier 6 is stated to have 4,400 for the stock filter or six months of constant usage. In our 1200 square foot apartment, I tend to only run the unit 2-3 times a week, with the heaviest usage being during cooking in the kitchen, or after my Saturday cleaning session of our place.

My mother suggested I keep it running 24/7 in our bedroom to keep the air a bit cleaner because in her words, “you can always buy the filters cheaply online,” but when I did this I actually was disturbed at night by the sound of the fans.

The Air Purifier 6 has six fans to keep air evenly distributed and cleaned, which is great for efficiency but can get a little noisy when they’re all running. As a result, we mostly run it during the day or right before bed, but leave it off overnight so it does not interrupt anyone’s sleep. This is minor but worth noting if you’re sensitive to white noise at night.

There is an included remote that allows you complete control from anywhere in the house which is nice. I’m a little spoiled by smart devices that also work with iOS apps, so I did wish I could control the air purifier remotely while at the office or out of town. Recently our family went out of town for a week, and I forgot to turn the Shark Air Purifier 6 off, but luckily it was connected to one of our HomeKit smart Plugs so I was able to completely disable the unit.

The remote itself is well-made and uses the same control layout as the screen on the Shark Air Purifier 6, which is a nice consistency for ease of use. An added bonus for this particular air purifier is that the physical buttons are on top of the unit. My daughter just started walking, but she’s still too small to reach the top. If you have any mobile and curious small people wandering your house, they can’t get into any mischief or alter the settings by accidentally touching the buttons.

So I guess the real question is: Do you need the Shark Air Purifier 6? My personal opinion is yes. Using its air purification helps remove allergens and unwanted scents, and it just makes your home that much more pleasant and comfortable. We’ve definitely noticed a difference when it’s running during diaper changes!
