The Lowdown

Would I recommend the Addaday BioZoom Edge? I would. It’s not as portable as some of the others I’ve reviewed, but I think it’s more user-friendly in many ways.

They say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. Likewise, you shouldn’t judge a massage gun by the initial impression. I was skeptical about the Addaday BioZoom Edge massage gun when I first unboxed it; the Edge was bulky and heavy compared to some of the more svelte massagers I’ve encountered in the past, and I didn’t think it would stack up given how large it was. That skepticism was before I gave it a full test run, though! Will Bluetooth and a powerful motor overcome the bulkiness? Read on to find out!

Addaday BioZoom Edge

Addaday aims to have the BioZoom Edge stand out in a few ways. It’s pitched as quieter than the competition, and I definitely found that the motor wasn’t as buzzy or loud as some others I’ve tested. Noise isn’t a big dealbreaker, but it’s nice to note the sound is less irritating.

The Addaday BioZoom Edge’s build quality is excellent, and it has a nice soft-touch handle that makes it easy to grip comfortably. It also has directional buttons along the trigger area and a screen that lets you control the mode, check Bluetooth connectivity, see the level of power it is at, and finally assess the battery percentage.

It was also easy to swap out the various massage heads, which is mostly notable since I had to take pliers to another massage gun to swap one attachment properly! I also loved that it has a hard on/off switch, so there’s no question about whether you left it on!

Addaday BioZoom Edge

I have two issues with the Addaday BioZoom Edge physically. One is that it is huge. The addsfit gun I reviewed recently weighs in at 1 pound, 4 ounces, while the BioZoom clocks in at 1 pound 15 ounces (so basically, almost 2 pounds!) It’s also bulky, so you’re not going to be able to toss this in a bag and ignore that it’s there.

The Addaday BioZoom Edge also uses a proprietary charger instead of a micro-USB or USB-C connection. Again, not a big deal, but it does limit portability a little bit in that it’s yet another charger you’d need for travel instead of being able to double up using a universal cord.

The battery does seem fairly strong, and it does last quite a while between charges, but Bluetooth eats up some charge, and I wouldn’t take it with me on a long trip without a charger handy.

Addaday BioZoom Edge

BioZoom believes they stand out because this isn’t your usual “pick up and use” massage gun. You can use it that way, but the way it really shines is via the companion app.

With the Addaday app, you indicate what part of your body hurts, and the app has routines it can run you through that help break up muscle tension. More importantly, the app controls the massage gun and alters the vibration and movement according to the routine. This means you’re getting more out of the massage gun experience, especially since it breaks down muscle soreness in a very holistic fashion.

If you indicate your lower back hurts, for instance, the app will guide you to use the Addaday BioZoom Edge massage gun all the way into your hips, quads, and hamstrings because if your back hurts, it’s about more than just your back muscles.

Addaday app

The app has a very creepy generic human you can tap to show where it hurts, and once you get past the shock of a Ken doll that looks kind of like he might steal your soul, you can tap various spots to pull up different massage routines.

I wish there were a way to swap the gender of the imaginary person, but that’s more personal preference than anything functional. It would also be nice if you could indicate more than one area of the body at a time to put together longer routines.

For example, you can indicate your lower back hurts on the left or right, but you can’t indicate both sides hurt. Or you can indicate your back hurts but not tack on that your hamstrings hurt too. It’s minor because the app is quite easy to navigate, and you can just flip back to select different areas, but a way to program in a full-body routine or even just hit a few areas in one big session would be nice.

I also appreciated that each routine shows someone demonstrating the suggested movements, giving a nice visual guide to making sure you’re properly addressing each area. It also indicates which massage head to use for different parts of your body, though obviously, you’re free to experiment — if you like the forked pokey one on your back, you do you.

Addaday app

My girlfriend has some chronic back issues, and after being caught in traffic driving here, she was really uncomfortable from the additional car time. So we busted out the Addaday BioZoom Edge, and she agreed to be a guinea pig testing the app and massager. Her feedback was slightly mixed. She absolutely loved the hexagonal massage head and commented several times that it provided a different and better experience than the usual rounded heads.

On the downside, while we tried to use the Addaday app’s walkthrough for back pain, her take there was that the app moved you too quickly from one area to the other-she would have preferred the ability to draw out more time on problem areas instead of it briskly moving her along. She wound up ditching the app’s walkthrough and just using the Addaday BioZoom Edge by setting the vibration manually. Still, she did utilize the suggestions from the app in moving around her hips and legs to address her back pain.

Addaday app

You can also program and save specific sessions, but not with the specificity that the premade options offer. But if you know that, say, “5 minutes on level 5” work wonders for your lower back, you could save that precise combo. And then separately save “10 minutes on level 4” for your shoulders, for example. So there is some ability to customize, but you can’t do level stepping or pauses like with the pre-made routines.

On the whole, I was more impressed than I expected to be with the Addaday BioZoom Edge. As I’ve said before, I’ve become something of an unofficial expert in massage guns and similar recovery tools, and the BioZoom stands out for sure, and not just because it looks like maybe it could beat up all the other ones.

The vibration motor is very smooth, and I love that it gives you a numeric percentage for the battery life. I also really love that it has an app and a whole ecosystem of walkthrough videos to go along with the gun itself.

Massage guns are an amazing recovery tool, but you need to know what you’re doing, or you won’t get the full benefits. When you’re spending $149.99 on a massage tool, you want to get the best possible experience out of it. Adding an app and Bluetooth definitely helps the Addaday BioZoom Edge stand out and offer something different in an increasingly crowded field!

Addaday app

Would I recommend the Addaday BioZoom Edge? I would. It’s not as portable as some of the others I’ve reviewed, but I think it’s more user-friendly in many ways. As much as the model in the app creeped me out, I really loved the Bluetooth integration and the way you could follow specific routines to address your recovery needs.

My biggest complaints are that it has that proprietary charger and that it doesn’t have a carrying case for the various attachments. You can buy extras if you lose some or wear them out, but it wouldn’t hurt to have a drawstring bag to keep everything neat and organized.

$149.99 is right in line with other massage gun prices, but when you factor in the app, the Addaday BioZoom Edge offers you a lot of (gentle, percussive, massaging) bang for your buck!

The Addaday BioZoom Edge sells for $149.99; it is available directly from the manufacturer and other retailers, including Amazon and Target.
