Olivers Stadium Shirt Jacket

The Lowdown

I wasn’t immediately impressed by the Olivers Stadium Shirt Jacket. I could not imagine it being warm enough to warrant wearing it, let alone the “impressively” high price tag. Well, I was wrong. This shirt-jack is incredibly comfortable, goes well over all but the dressiest of shirts, and is surprisingly warm. Add in the fact that I think it looks great, and I’m already getting a lot of use out of this; if you order one, you will too.

Overall
4.5

Pros

  • Ripstop nylon looks and feels great and has already proven itself durable

Olivers’ claim to fame is that they “make premium athletic staples reimagined for the 21st century.” That’s a pretty apt description of their growing line of quality casual wear. I love their Passage Pants, and the new Olivers Stadium Shirt Jacket I received for review has already become one of my favorite pieces of clothing this fall.

Let me get this out of the way up front. Like all of Olivers’ offerings, the $158 Stadium Shirt Jacket is pricey. Even so, like all of the other products I’ve reviewed from Olivers, the Stadium Shirt Jacket is thoughtfully designed and built to last through years of wear. I’ve worn the Passage Pants I reviewed in 2018 countless times, and they still look brand new.)

The Olivers Stadium Shirt Jacket’s name is pretty accurate. I’ve worn it over a t-shirt as an untucked shirt, but I’ve also snapped it closed and worn it like a windbreaker when I needed a bit more warmth. That kind of flexibility, combined with the

Available in your choice of Military Olive and Petrol, the Olivers Stadium Shirt Jacket is 97% ripstop nylon and 3% spandex. Olivers refers to the fabric as “Compass Ripstop Nylon” and describes it this way:

Our ripstop nylon blend is uniquely tear-resistant and finished with a durable water repellent and anti-UV coating.

The jacket is tough and sheds dirt and dust but, eventually, it will need to be cleaned. Fortunately, you won’t need to take it to a dry cleaner to do so. Just machine wash in cold water, then lay it flat to dry, and you’ll be good to go. Best of all, it looks and feels great.

I wasn’t sure what to think when I read that it was 97% ripstop nylon. Honestly, I couldn’t help but envision a jack-shirt made from discarded parachutes. I was pleased that the look and feel of the material is much nicer and far more refined than that. The material is soft, and the cross pattern that makes ripstop nylon “ripstoppable” is only noticeable when you look closely. Most importantly, it doesn’t feel like nylon.

The quilted lining is also nylon that doesn’t feel like nylon. Better still, while the Olivers Stadium Shirt Jacket is thin and light, thanks to the lining, it is surprisingly warm.

The zipper pulls are metal with a plastic cover that makes them comfortable to grab. However, they aren’t YKK zippers; instead, they have the Olivers’ name embossed on them. Similarly, the metal snaps feel solid and substantial, and they also carry the Olivers’ name.

Pockets on each side have no snaps but are deep enough that items stowed inside won’t fall out.

A fifth pocket sits inside, over the Olivers Stadium Shirt Jacket’s left breast; it has a zipper ideal for your phone or wallet.

Finally, it is worth noting that the sleeves have two snaps. Undo both of them, and you can roll up the sleeves for some added comfort.

Olivers has this to say:

It might be lightweight and easy to wear, but don’t be fooled — this jacket was built to stand up to the elements. In water-repellent ripstop nylon, with a quilted, lightly insulated liner.
