Liteband PRO 1000 Headlamp Review: A Wide, Bright Light When You Need to See Hands-Free

Headlamps are one of the most convenient ways to carry a flashlight hands-free when you are in the dark. Most headlamps have a single focussed beam that aims light directly in front of you, but that’s not the case with the Liteband PRO 1000 Headlamp; it provides a 210º beam, shining a light on everything directly in your path and on both sides. Wondering if this might be an even better lighting solution, especially when walking or working outdoors at night, I asked a long-time headlamp wearer, my husband Kev, to give the Lightband PRO 1000 a try.

But first, let’s take a look at the Liteband PRO 1000 Headlamp itself, and then I’ll tell you what Kev thought about using it.

The Liteband PRO 1000 Headlamp comes in a recyclable package that includes the headlamp strap, a 3400mAh X-TEND Lithium-Ion USB-C rechargeable battery, a USB-C to USB-A charging cable, four hard hat clips, and instructions.

There are 35 low-profile LEDs arranged across the front of the Liteband PRO 1000 Headlamp, and together they offer up to 1000 lumens of bright light. When ordering, you can choose a headband color in Hi-Vis Yellow or Carbon Fiber Black. The comfortable and adjustable headband is a little wider than an inch, and with the battery inserted, it weighs less than six ounces.

Set-up is simple; there is an open-ended elastic battery compartment with a reflective Lightband logo patch on the back of the headband.

The battery pack slips inside there, where it is held firmly in place. The Liteband PRO 1000 Headlamp is designed so that when you are wearing it, 40% of the weight is on the front, and 60% of the weight is on the back, so it’s quite balanced. Best of all, neither the battery pack nor the LED strip on the front will bounce, so if you are wearing it while running, obnoxious bouncing won’t be an issue.

When inserting the battery pack into the elastic holder, you’ll want to make sure that the coiled USB cable attached to the battery pack is aimed toward the USB-C port on the right side of the LED strip. The power/mode button is on the top.

Once the battery pack’s USB-C is plugged into the port, the set-up is complete; now, it’s time to charge the headlamp.

On the side of the battery pack opposite of the attached coiled USB-C cable, there is a tight little weatherproof door that swings down for charging; the headlamp has a weatherproof rating of IPX5 with a Class 1 safety rating, so it’s fine to wear even in the rain or snow. The design is also durable and impact-resistant.

It takes about 3.5 hours to fully charge the Liteband PRO 1000 Headlamp from empty; we haven’t yet run the battery completely down before recharging, so it’s never taken that long. The 3400mAh battery is rated for up to 28 hours of continuous light on the low setting. When recharging, the battery light will blink red, and it will glow solid red when charging is done.

The Liteband PRO 1000 Headlamp’s 21oº light strip offers five light modes: high, medium, low, red, and pulse. You can cycle through the various modes by pressing the power button once for each mode; once you have been in a particular mode for longer than five seconds, the headlamp will turn off the next time the power button is pressed.

Even though it may seem like the Liteband PRO 1000 Headlamp is aimed at professional tradespeople, it is also an excellent choice for any outdoor activity, including hiking, jogging, camping, hunting, etc.

Kev wears the Liteband PRO 1000 Headlamp directly on his head; he says it’s comfortable and lightweight, even when he’s wearing it for an extended time. He likes that the wide beam lights up everything in front of him and on both sides, which he says is great when he is doing something around the barn or his shop at night while keeping an eye out for rattlesnakes.

I noticed that when Kev left home to work on an ATV in the dimly lit barn at his ranch today, he left his single beam headlamp lying on the dining room table; he said that the Liteband PRO 1000 Headlamp is excellent to use when working on things close-up, like the ATV he’s fixing today.

The headlamp isn’t bulky in front, so he doesn’t have to worry about hitting it on anything in tight spaces. Because the headlamp lights up a larger area, so he doesn’t have to swivel his head to aim the light to find a tool or part — he can see it in his peripheral vision and just reach for it.

One thing he said that made me laugh was that if he were a runner (he’s not), the Liteband PRO 1000 Headlamp would be an obvious choice because it doesn’t bounce, it’s lightweight and comfortable, and it lights up everything for about six to eight feet in front and around him.

I asked if Kev could think of any reason someone might choose a single beam headlamp over the Liteband. He mentioned that many of the single beam headlamps he has used offer the option of using a rechargeable battery or alkaline batteries; he didn’t see how this headlamp could. However, it turns out that there is a $14.99 add-on that allows the Liteband ACTIV and PRO models to operate with three AA batteries, so that concern was abated.

With that, he said the only issue he could see was that with heavy work gloves on, the power/mode button could be a little hard to press compared to the larger buttons on some of his other headlamps, so there you have it — the one con.

The Liteband PRO 1000 Headlamp’s 210º lighting is excellent for just about any scenario you might find yourself needing hands-free light in, whether it is working inside in a dimly lit room, under a car, or when hiking, fishing, camping, or exercising. The headband is comfortable and lightweight, and the low-profile LED strip on the front doesn’t feel heavy or bounce against your forehead when you’re moving around.
