If you’ve ever needed to place a security camera in a remote location, only to realize that without reliable Wi-Fi access or electricity, it simply wasn’t going to work, you are going to love this news. Arlo has just announced that the latest generation Verizon Arlo Go 2 LET/Wi-Fi Security Camera is now available. Whether you are keeping an eye on a construction site, vacation home, boat, RV, the far end of your oversized yard, or some other location that doesn’t have reliable (or any) Wi-Fi, the Arlo Go 2 is an excellent and relatively inexpensive option worth considering.
The Verizon Arlo Go 2 LTE/Wi-Fi Security Camera has a sleek, completely wireless design with a swappable, rechargeable battery. You can mount the Arlo Go 2 just about anywhere — even if there is no power or Wi-Fi signal in the area. With it, you’ll have access to a 130º angle view in 1080p video with zoom and capture; there’s also an integrated spotlight for color night vision so you can see details more clearly in the dark.
The Arlo Go 2’s weather-resistant design can withstand heat, cold, rain, and sun. Like other Arlo cameras, the Arlo Go 2 gives you two-way audio so you can hear and speak to visitors clearly, but it also has a triggerable siren that you can activate when needed.
Unlike the other Arlo cameras we’ve covered, the Arlo Go 2 will work just about anywhere — as long as the location has cellular service. If the place you have in mind has no possibility of Wi-Fi coverage at all, the Verizon Arlo Go 2 LTE/Wi-Fi Security Camera allows you to use 4G LTE exclusively. If you have Wi-Fi, but it’s spotty, like if you wanted to mount a camera on the edge of your acre lot and Wi-Fi sometimes works but not consistently, then you can use the Verizon 4G LTE as a backup in conjunction with Wi-Fi.
When you use Arlo cameras, you’ll get notifications any time there is movement or sudden noise. But adding Arlo Secure gives you a lot more benefits and features. When you buy the Arlo Go 2, you’ll get a complimentary three-month trial to the Arlo Secure service, including access to rolling 30-day cloud recordings, personalized notifications (like when the camera has spotted a person, animal, or vehicle), customizable motion zones, and package detection.
Arlo Secure also has a 24/7 Emergency Response feature that will quickly dispatch fire, police, or medical responders to the camera’s location with one touch. Arlo agents are available to share the critical information you’ve input into the Arlo App with first responders to reduce response time and help out when there is a crisis. The Arlo Go 2 has GPS positioning to be easily located by you or by first responders. Arlo Secure starts at $2.99 per month for a single camera or $9.99 for unlimited cameras in the same location.
If you opt not to continue the Arlo Secure trial, you can instead insert a microSD card in the camera to store saved videos directly on the device for later viewing.
Kev and I have a first-generation AT&T Arlo Go camera installed at his ranch, and we’ve had so much fun using it to spy on the wildlife that comes out we aren’t around. Getting notifications as things occur that far out in the middle of nowhere would never be possible with any camera that didn’t offer cellular service. Before buying the Arlo Go, we had priced several other cellular cameras. Let me tell you — many of the other options cost a lot more money upfront with expensive monthly plans that didn’t offer half as much as simply going through our cellular provider.
The AT&T plan that we are on allowed us to add a data-only SIM card to the Arlo Go for $20 per month (which comes to about $24 per month, including all of the taxes); it has been very worth it! I just checked, and if I am reading this correctly, Verizon will allow you to add a data-only device to your existing plan for as little as $10 per month, which seems really reasonable!
To give you an idea of what’s possible with an Arlo Go 2, here are some of the many wildlife videos we have taken with our AT&T Arlo Go. Bear in mind that the first generation Arlo Go didn’t have color night vision, so you can already imagine that having it will make a big difference if you want to see what’s going on in even better detail.
