Televisions have come a very long way in a relatively short period of time. Just a few years ago, the idea of a flat-screen television was science fiction, but they have quickly become the default in how we consume our entertainment. LG is taking television even further with their new announcements at CES 2022, including the new 97″ LG OLED G2, interactive features, and more!

LG OLED G2

LG G2 blends minimalist framing with gorgeous imagery.

Don’t ever see yourself leaving the house to catch a movie again? You won’t need to with the new LG OLED G2. Not only does LG promise darker blacks and bolder colors with OLED, but they’re also even going to be offering the G2 in 83″ size, as well as in the world’s first, super-sized 97″ OLED television.

To put 97″ into perspective, that’s about 12″ bigger than the width of a Ford Explorer, so imagine mounting the back end of an SUV to your wall, add a foot, and that’s how big the new G2 television screen is!

The LG G2 also comes in 55″, 65″, 77″, and 83″ models, so if 97″ seems like a little too much television for you, there are other options.

LG OLED C2

LG C2 shows off that OLED style

The LG C2 line also uses OLED, and comes in 48″, 55″, 65″, 77″, and 83″ options, as well as a new 42″ size that LG highlights as being ideal for gaming.

Pricing and specific availability for the LG OLED G2 and C2 series are to be determined, so you have a little time to start searching your couch cushions for change.

LG uses what they call the 9 Gen 5 platform to make their televisions run smarter and clearer. The processor can help make images appear more 3-dimensional, as well as improve the surround sound bring fuller and more lifelike sound to the experience.

Their Smart TV interface is picking up some new tricks too. For starters, there will be user profiles, allowing each television user to set their favorite streaming options as well as content recommendations and news alerts.

NFC magic tap will allow people to log in to their profiles, as well as allow users to mirror the content on one tv to another. Finally, if you want your tv to do more than just hang out on the wall when it’s not in use, the Always Ready feature will allow you to show artwork, play music, etc.

LG’s ThinQ AI will also support Matter-compatible home devices and allow you to control your home from your television.

Gamers are definitely top of mind for LG. There’s the Game Optimizer menu, which allows you to set the screen brightness and contrast to ideal gaming conditions, as well as support for Google Stadia and NVIDIA GeForce NOW. They also added sports mode to the various gaming preset options, so your Mario and Sonic at the Olympics will look just like Nintendo intended.

Finally, LG is adding several interactive options to its television offerings. There’s LIVENow, which gives access to concerts and other live events, but there’s also 1M HomeDance that teaches users how to dance like K-Pop stars, plus LG Fitness to keep everyone in shape without having to leave their homes.

One other niche but amazing feature is Independa, which allows senior citizens to access telehealth right from their television. This is an amazing feature that could potentially simplify connecting people with their caretakers and medical teams in new, simple, and contact-free ways.

It will be interesting to see how LG expands these and other offerings in the future!
