Nomad Base One MagSafe Charger Review: Brings Elegance to Wireless Charging

The Lowdown

Thanks to my work here at Gear Diary, I have plenty of MagSafe chargers available to me, but the Nomad Base One MagSafe Charger is by far the most beautiful and functional one yet.

Overall
4.5

Pros

  • Beautifully refined charger made from premium materials
  • Weighing over a pound, it won’t slide on surfaces and stays put when you pick your phone up from it
  • Magnets help align the iPhone perfectly each time it’s placed on the charger
  • Includes a braided USB-C to USB-C cable

Cons

  • Charges one device at a time and has no auxiliary output for charging a second device
  • Does not ship with an AC wall adapter

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Nomad‘s products. Their cables are among the best you can purchase, and their cases have saved my iPhone and iPad more often than once. Their charges are also excellent, and their most recent offering, the Nomad Base One MagSafe Charger, is their most refined yet. It’s beautiful… and that’s just the beginning.

As Nomad explains, “Base One delivers official MFI MagSafe charging at up to 15W with a weighted metal body and an elevated glass panel designed to complement any space.”

Nomad Base One MagSafe Charger

The Nomad Base One MagSafe Charger is made from solid metal and glass. It looks gorgeous, and the glass surface seems to shimmer when the light hits it just right.

The premium materials are used to make it heavier than other chargers and help keep the device from sliding around on the surface, no matter how slick that surface might be. (The rubber feet on the bottom help too!)

It also means the charger stays anchored to any surface when you go to pick up your device without the need for suction cups or adhesive. The charger is designed with the official MagSafe technology from Apple, so you can be assured that you get the fastest and safest charging possible.

Charging reimagined: With 15W of power, based on offers iPhone charging speeds comparable to that of a cable. That means less time charging and more time doing what you love with your devices.

The charging pad itself is slightly elevated, which looks beautiful but, more importantly, makes it easier to grab your device and pick it up. Nomad is known for making products with beautiful aesthetics, and this is no exception.

The Nomad Base One MagSafe Charger is available in two colors. When ordering, you can choose from the Silver (white) model, that’s the one I received for review, or a Carbide (black) model with a white charging disc. Both look great, and the choice is really a matter of your aesthetics.

Specifications:

  • Up to 15 W wireless charging speed
  • 97 mm x 97 mm x 18.75 mm large
  • Includes a 2 m USB CT USB see cable
  • Requires a 30 W USB power adapter which is not included.

It would have been nice for Nomad to include a wall adapter with the Base One. That’s particularly the case since it costs just under $130. But while Nomad didn’t include a charger, they do give you the option to pick up their wall adapter at half the usual price. That means that instead of paying the usual $29.95, you can get one for $14.95 when ordering the Base One.

Of course, if you have plenty of wall adapters like me, you’ll appreciate that Nomad is saving landfills while they’re keeping costs down.

Nomad Base One MagSafe Charger

The Nomad Base One MagSafe Charger looks like a piece of jewelry, and it feels like a tank. More importantly, it works well. I love the fact that while Apple’s MagSafe charging system is superb but simply functional, Nomad is finding ways to make such chargers elegant.

I love the fact that the magnets in the Base One grab the phone when it’s brought into close proximity and perfectly align the device to get the fastest charging speeds possible every time.

Thanks to my work here at Gear Diary, I have plenty of MagSafe chargers available to me, but the Nomad Base One MagSafe Charger is by far the most beautiful and functional one yet. Whether you are new to wireless charging or a veteran, the Nomad Base One is an excellent option for keeping your iPhone fully charged.

The Nomad Base One MagSafe Charger sells for $129.95; it is available directly from the manufacturer.
