Hong Kong-based Govee is a well-established manufacturer of smart home lighting and appliances. Their smart lighting products include gaming lights, TV lights, and wall lights, many of which we have reviewed at Gear Diary. In this review, we look at the Outdoor Triad Floodlight.
Although usable for indoor applications, the Govee Outdoor Triad Floodlight features an IP66-rated metal body and IP67-rated control box, making it rugged enough to be used in almost any outdoor environment. I can attest to its weather resistance.
I shot sample footage (below) during a fairly strong rainstorm. The floodlight enclosure has a minimalistic look and is made of matte black high-quality aluminum alloy, which facilitates optimal heat dissipation.
The Govee Outdoor Triad Floodlight has a solid feel, and according to the manufacturer, it can “serve up to 20,000 hours, perform in a range of temperatures, and withstand forces up to 10 times its own weight.”
At 4500 lumens, the three lamps of Triad Floodlight are very bright, and Govee says they can cover areas up to 430 square feet. The lamp enclosures are hinged and allow for 90-degree horizontal movement, ranging from perpendicular to parallel but not beyond.
In other words, the three lamps cannot be angled towards each other. The attached stand is also hinged and allows for 90-degree vertical movement, allowing you to position the floodlight precisely as you wish.

The Govee App
Like many smart lighting products, the Govee Outdoor Triad Floodlight is controlled through an app. In this case, all of the controls are through the app, as the light has no physical buttons or controls.
You’ll download the free Govee Home app and simply select “+” at the top of the screen to choose your product. Pairing is very quick, and when the light is selected from the menu, you are presented with several choices.
The main screen offers several universal controls, such as brightness and a timer, as well as a list of the four main modes: Music, Color, Scene, and DIY.
Music Mode syncs the light to music detected by the Govee Outdoor Triad Floodlight itself or the attached smartphone and has six different effects from which to choose.
Color Mode allows you to customize the hue projected from each lamp and its brightness. In this stationary color mode, you can select from several presets, a linear color palette, or a range of warm and cool white lights.
Scene Mode is where the Govee Outdoor Triad Floodlight really comes to life. While Color Mode is perfect for setting the mood and creating a subtle atmosphere, Scene Mode animates the three lamps in a wide variety of choices.
Under Scene Mode, there are four screens of options: Natural, Festival, Soothing, and Life, each with a screen worth of variations ranging from subtle to intense.
DIY Mode allows you to set custom parameters and integrate the Triad with other Govee lights for a combined effect.
Beyond the app, the Triad Floodlight can be paired with the optional Govee Outdoor Motion Sensor (sold separately) for increased security and convenience. You can also control the Triad using Alexa, Google Home, and third-party systems compatible with Matter.
