The Lowdown

The Nomad Universal Cable for Apple Watch is the brand’s most durable, powerful, flexible cable yet, and it’s available now. Trust me, you want this cable if you rely on mobile devices and have an Apple Watch.

Overall
4.8

Pros

  • Tough, reinforced cable and connectors
  • Fast charging speeds
  • Integrated Apple Watch charging puck for convenience and organization
  • It can also charge any wireless-charging capable AirPods

Cons

  • It requires an adapter of at least 20W for multi-device charging (not included)
  • It is pricier than other cables, but that’s not comparing apples to apples

Despite the proliferation of wireless charging options, we still need cables for charging and data transfer. The problem is that many of the available cables look great but are cheap, don’t work well, and quickly wear out. That’s why I almost exclusively use cables from Nomad. Their latest offering, the Nomad Universal Cable for Apple Watch, is something truly unique.

At $100, the Nomad Universal Cable for Apple Watch is clearly a premium offering, but what you get is totally unique. I’m thrilled to have a sample in hand; it is now part of my gear bag for daily use and travel. Here’s why:

Strength

The Nomad Universal Cable for Apple Watch features a double-braided Kevlar outer weave. This makes the cables flexible but tough. After a few months of use, you won’t see frayed cables or exposed wires the way I do with Apple cables.

In addition, the cables have reinforced electroplated USB-C connectors for added durability. This is a cable that will cost a bit more out of pocket but will last long enough that it is ultimately an excellent value.

Speed

Durability is important when it comes to cables, but so is speed. Thankfully, the Nomad Universal Cable for Apple Watch is built for both. It delivers up to 100W 20V at 5A charging speeds, so your phone, tablet, or laptop charges as quickly as the wall adapter and device permit. You won’t wait for hours before you can get back to work!

Convenience

Integrated cable management in the Nomad Universal Cable for Apple Watch

Nomad cables ship with integrated silicone cable ties to keep cables wrapped and neat when not in use. I was thrilled to see the inclusion of this great feature in the Nomad Universal Cable for Apple Watch as well. Made from Liquid Silicone Rubber, the tie is tough, effective, and won’t fray or tear. As I’ve told Nomad, I wish they would sell the cable wraps as a stand-alone accessory.
