The Lowdown

The NovorikX 40V Electric Cordless Lawn Mower is a lightweight, easy-to-maneuver option for small to medium-sized yards. It uses two 20V 4Ah batteries, has a 17-inch cutting deck, six cutting heights, and an included grass catcher. Despite not being self-propelled, its roughly 30-pound weight makes it easy to push and steer. Battery life impressed me, with about half the indicated capacity remaining after roughly 45 minutes of mowing. There’s quite a bit of plastic in its construction, but for $299.99, it’s a simple, capable cordless mower that gets the job done.

I’ve reviewed quite a few lawn mowers over the years, from traditional gas models to robotic mowers that practically do the job for you. But sometimes you just want a simple mower that you can pull out of the garage, push a button, and get the job done without gas, cords, or a complicated setup. That’s where the NovorikX 40V Electric Cordless Lawn Mower comes in. It’s a lightweight, battery-powered push mower with two 20V batteries, a brushless motor, and a 17-inch cutting deck. Let’s see if this budget-friendly little mower has what it takes to tame my yard today.

What Is It?

The NovorikX 40V Electric Cordless Lawn Mower is a battery-powered push mower designed for small to medium-sized yards. Instead of a single 40V battery, it uses two 20V 4Ah lithium-ion batteries together to power its brushless motor.

It has a 17-inch cutting deck, six cutting-height settings, and lets you collect the grass clippings in the included bag or mulch them back into your lawn. It is not self-propelled, so you’ll need to supply the forward momentum yourself. But as I found out during my testing, that really isn’t a big deal because this mower is surprisingly lightweight and easy to push.

And, of course, since it’s electric, there’s no gas to buy, oil to change, pull cord to yank on, or extension cord to drag around the yard. Just charge the batteries, install them, and you’re ready to mow.

What’s In The Box?

The NovorikX 40V Electric Cordless Lawn Mower arrived in a large cardboard box, and I was happy to see that NovorikX didn’t fill the box with Styrofoam. Who’s with me that Styrofoam is evil?

Inside the box, you’ll find:

The mower itself comes mostly assembled, although you’ll need to unfold and set up the handle and assemble the grass catcher. The handle is already attached to the mower, so you aren’t starting from scratch with a pile of mower parts scattered all over the floor.

The two batteries that came with my review unit even arrived partially charged. Each one showed three out of four bars when I checked, so I could do some initial testing without waiting for a full charge.

The combination of a 17-inch deck and roughly 30-pound weight helps explain why the NovorikX 40V Electric Cordless Lawn Mower feels considerably smaller and easier to move around than some of the larger cordless mowers I’ve tested. The 3700 RPM brushless motor delivers cutting power without the maintenance associated with a gas engine.

Design and Features

NovorikX 40V Electric Cordless Lawn Mower

Once I had the NovorikX 40V Electric Cordless Lawn Mower out of the box, one of the first things I noticed was how lightweight it felt. I’ve reviewed lawn mowers that you almost have to manhandle to move them around, but that definitely isn’t the case here.

The mower uses quite a bit of plastic in its construction. The housing and wheels are plastic, while the axle, handles, and, thankfully, the actual cutting blade are metal.

Does all that plastic make it feel like a budget mower? Yes. But it also contributes to one of the NovorikX mower’s biggest advantages: its weight. I could easily pick up and maneuver the mower without feeling like I was wrestling with it.

I think that could make the NovorikX 40V Electric Cordless Lawn Mower appealing to someone who doesn’t want to deal with a large, heavy lawn mower. It should also make it easier to move in and out of a garage or shed.

Setting up the handle was pretty simple. There are adjustment points on both sides that let you change the angle of the handle and then lock it into position. I apparently didn’t spend enough time finding my perfect setting because after my first mowing session, I realized the handle was a little too high. Fortunately, adjusting it again isn’t difficult.

The battery compartment is located under a large cover on top of the mower. I initially assumed the mower would run from one battery at a time and that the second battery was essentially a spare. Nope!

Both batteries go into the mower at the same time.

The batteries slide into their slots, and I like that you can see their charge indicators when you open the battery compartment. Removing them isn’t too difficult either. They fit securely, but I didn’t have to fight with them to get them back out.

The attachment point for the grass-catching bag is around the back. I don’t normally use a grass catcher when I mow because I prefer to leave the clippings on the lawn, but I wanted to test it for this review.

I expected installing the bag to be more fiddly than it actually was. You lift the rear cover, position the bag, and it basically sits in place. You’ll want to remove the grass plug first. There’s also a handle on top of the bag that makes it easy to grab when you want to remove it.

NovorikX 40V Electric Cordless Lawn Mower height adjustment lever

Another useful feature is the NovorikX 40V Electric Cordless Lawn Mower’s six-position cutting-height adjustment. A lever lets you raise or lower the mower depending on how short you want to cut your grass. The available range is approximately 0.98 to 2.95 inches.

I started around level four because we like to leave our grass a little longer. If you like your lawn cropped really short, you have that option too.

NovorikX 40V Electric Cordless Lawn Mower power button

The controls are refreshingly simple. There’s a power button along with the safety control that you hold while mowing. Press the button, engage the mower, and the blade starts spinning.

That’s one of the things I like about battery-powered lawn equipment. You don’t have to prime an engine, pull a starter cord several times, or wonder whether the mower will cooperate that day. Push a button and go.

I also didn’t find the NovorikX 40V Electric Cordless Lawn Mower obnoxiously loud. Obviously, a lawn mower with a blade spinning at thousands of RPM isn’t going to be silent, but you don’t get the engine noise of a gas mower.

NovorikX 40V Electric Cordless Lawn Mower blade

Before mowing, I tipped the mower over to take a look underneath. One metal blade sits beneath the plastic deck. Again, you can tell that this is designed to be a lightweight mower rather than a heavy-duty tank.

The question is whether that lightweight construction still does the job.

See It in Action

From Unboxing to Mowing - NovorikX Lawn Mower Review

For my first test, I took the NovorikX 40V Electric Cordless Lawn Mower out for a quick maiden voyage in my front yard.

The first thing I noticed was how easy it was to push.

Remember, this is not a self-propelled mower. Normally, that might make you think you’ll get an extra workout while mowing, but the NovorikX is light enough that I didn’t miss self-propulsion.

Turning and maneuvering around the yard was easy, too. I didn’t feel like I that to muscle the mower into position every time I wanted to change direction.

NovorikX 40V Electric Cordless Lawn Mower mowing

For that initial test of the NovorikX 40V Electric Cordless Lawn Mower, I installed the grass-catching bag even though I don’t normally mow that way. When I finished the small section, there wasn’t much grass in the bag, but my lawn wasn’t particularly tall at the time, so there wasn’t much for it to collect.

More importantly, the mower was easy to use, easy to push, and cut the grass without any trouble.

My only immediate adjustment was the handle. I realized I had set it a little too high, so I plan to lower it before my next mowing session. That’s more of a setup issue than a complaint about the mower since the handle is adjustable.

For the second and more useful test, I fully charged both batteries and mowed the rest of my front yard.

That gave me a much better idea of what to expect from the batteries during an actual mowing session.

My front yard took just under 30 minutes to mow. After finishing that area, I continued mowing a couple of other sections of the property that weren’t shown on camera for approximately another 15 minutes.

By the time I stopped, I had been mowing for roughly 45 minutes, perhaps a little longer.

Here’s the part that impressed me. When I checked the battery indicators after all that mowing, both batteries were still showing two bars.

In other words, after approximately 45 minutes of real-world mowing on my property, the indicators suggested that I still had around half of the battery capacity remaining.

That’s better than I expected.

Battery runtime will obviously vary depending on your grass, cutting height, terrain, and other conditions, so I wouldn’t assume everyone will see the same results that I did. But for my yard and the conditions during my testing, battery life wasn’t an issue.

I think someone with a medium-sized yard similar to mine could mow the whole thing on a charge and still have battery power left over.

I didn’t time a complete recharge cycle during my testing, so I can’t give you a verified charging time. But given how much mowing I did without draining the batteries, I didn’t feel like I would constantly be waiting for them to charge.

And that’s really what matters to me with a cordless mower. Battery-powered yard equipment is convenient right up until the battery dies halfway through the job. That didn’t happen here.

The cutting performance of the NovorikX 40V Electric Cordless Lawn Mower also did exactly what I needed it to do. The mower moved through my lawn without being difficult to push or steer, and I was happy with how the yard looked when I finished.

Would I choose this mower for acres of thick, overgrown grass? Probably not. A 17-inch push mower is clearly meant for a different job. But for the kind of normal residential mowing that I did during this review, I enjoyed using it.

Final Thoughts

The NovorikX 40V Electric Cordless Lawn Mower surprised me in a good way. When I first pulled it out of the box and saw how much plastic went into its construction, I immediately thought, yep, this is definitely a budget mower.

But once I started using it, that lightweight construction became one of the things I liked most.

Mowing with the NovorikX

This mower is easy to push, turn, and move around. The fact that it isn’t self-propelled didn’t bother me because I never felt like I was fighting against its weight. If you’ve used heavier push mowers before, you’ll probably appreciate the difference.

I also like the simple battery setup. Both 20V 4Ah batteries install under the top cover, the charge indicators are easy to check, and you don’t need gas, oil, extension cords, or much of anything else before you can start mowing.

Battery life was another pleasant surprise. My approximately 45-minute mowing session only took the battery indicators down to about half, which was more than enough runtime for the areas I needed to mow.

The six cutting heights give you some flexibility depending on how you like your lawn, and the included grass-catching bag is there for people who prefer to collect their clippings. I probably won’t use the bag often, but I appreciate that it’s included and easy to attach.

There are compromises. This is a lightweight mower with a lot of plastic, including the deck and wheels. It’s also a push mower, not a self-propelled model. If you have a huge yard, very steep terrain, or routinely tackle seriously overgrown grass, you may want something larger and more powerful.

For a small to medium-sized yard, though, I think the NovorikX is a nice little mower. It’s uncomplicated, maneuverable, and most importantly, it did a good job cutting my grass. I can pull it out, install the batteries, press a button, and start mowing. Sometimes simple is exactly what I want from a yard tool.

The NovorikX 40V Electric Cordless Lawn Mower retails for $299.99; it is available directly from the manufacturer and other retailers, including Amazon.
