Speck Product's A-Line Bag for Netbooks May Be the Best Looking Gear Bag Yet!

This is going to sound jaded and awful, but I am going to say it anyway: One of the absolute best things about being a product reviewer is that sometimes companies surprise you with packages containing items you didn’t know existed and you certainly didn’t expect to receive … and that you can’t wait to try out. But on the other hand, one of the absolute worst things about being a product reviewer is that sometimes companies surprise you with packages containing items you didn’t know existed and you certainly didn’t expect to receive … and you don’t necessarily even want to remove from their wrapper.

It’s true.

So today FedEx pulls up with a surprise from Speck. This time it wasn’t an iPhone case, it was a netbook bag. I pulled it out of the box (it was still in its plastic wrapper, mind you) and thought – meh, I’ll see if a member of the team is interested;. I have enough bags.

Then I pulled the A-Line 10 Notebook Tote out of its plastic wrapper and began exploring. Composed of what looks like “boiled wool” (thick, slightly fuzzy felt?), the A-Line is stylish, slim, and the contrasting color of its interior (I received the brown bag with red lining) keeps things interesting.

A big silver riveted button on the front is the simple closure system for an organized section which contains an expanding pocket for your girly things, two pen slots, a softly lined and padded zippered pocket with slots for two mobile devices, and three compartments (two totally padded) which can hold slimmer large electronics such as a Kindle or nook, an iPad, or a 10″ or smaller netbook. It is amazing how much this bag can hold, and yet it is so slim! It’s feminine without being girly, and it is pretty without being frilly. I really like this style.

The A-Line is available in Gray/Purple, Black/Gray and Brown/Red. It’s $59.95, and after an initial look-see, I must say that I am impressed. This is the first netbook bag that I’ve ever considered carrying as a handbag, and that’s saying a lot. If it came in leather, I would be the first in line to buy one, which is saying even more.

But don’t take my word for it; order one and see what you think. Speck has a very generous return policy; you can order one, put your “stuff” inside, stand in front of the mirror, and see what you think. If you like it, then yay! You’re set! If you don’t like it, ship it back; no harm, no foul. But I bet you won’t ship it back. 😉
