Giving the Honeywell HEPAClean 3-in-1 Advanced Air Cleaning System a Try During This Allergy Season

Have you ever taken a good look at the space just in front of you when the morning sun shines directly in your windows? If you have pets or live anywhere other than in a hermetically sealed envelope, you are probably used to seeing fine floating particles that are nearly unidentifiable … but if you have allergies they are all it takes to make your skin crawl in anticipation of your histamines’ response.

Those of us who suffer from allergies are used to dealing with itchy eyes, scratchy throats, runny noses and stuffy heads … and if we are lucky, it stops there. For many of us, a rough allergic spell can soon turn into a full-blown sinus infection, which is the next best thing to walking death.

I started taking allergy shots last year, and while I have no doubt that they have helped me cope with seasonal poisons, I’ve been frustrated by the fact that nothing seems to be able to tame the dust-monster inside my home. It doesn’t matter what cleaning products I use or what process I try, our humidity is so low that dust is simply a disturbing fact of life. That’s why I jumped when I was offered the chance to review the Honeywell HEPAClean® 3-in-1 Tower Air Purifier (HHT-145).

Features an advanced air cleaning system that combines 3 powerful air cleaning technologies into one – delivering cleaner, fresher air to your home. The germ-fighting ultraviolet technology helps reduce certain viruses, bacteria, fungi and mold spores while the HEPAClean® filters capture up to 99% of airborne particles such as dust, pet dander, smoke and pollen.

Now obviously a portable unit like this isn’t going to take care of an entire 1500 square foot (or more) home, but it is supposed to handle a 12′ x 15′ (or 185 square foot) room, which is probably about an average size bedroom … so that is exactly where I will set mine up. I will be watching over the next few weeks to see if I notice a difference in airborne particles or in our general air quality.

This particular air cleaning system features:

MSRP for this device is $249.99, which isn’t cheap! But if it works I will gladly buy several more for our home; I fully intend to find out if it is worth the money or not. If you have experience with consumer level air filtration systems — this one or any other — please share your experiences. Any tips you may have would be much appreciated as well. =)
