Speck CandyShell for iPad mini Review

Speck has had a tremendous amount of success with their CandyShell line of cases. While not a personal favorite, the company’s first release of a CandyShell for iPhone was an instant hit. As a result they have rolled out the style for many subsequent devices and have also expanded the line by adding different features to the same basic CandyShell design. For example, there are now CandyShell iPhone cases that let you flip the bottom third of the case free. This makes it easy to dock the phone for syncing and charging.

Speck is now rolling out cases for the iPad mini. First among them is, of course, a CandyShell for iPad mini. I appreciate the fact that this case offers complete protection for the top, bottom, sides and back of the case but don’t love the fact that there is no screen protection and no way to use a SmartCover with it. In other words, if you never need to have a protective covering on your iPad mini’s screen you may love this case. If, on the other hand, you want the ability to use a SmartCover so the entire iPad mini is protected you will want to look elsewhere. Here’s our video look.

MSRP: $44.95

What I Like: Protects the top, bottom, sides and back extremely well; comes in a number of color combinations

What Needs Improvement: No way to use a SmartCover with it; No screen protector included; Almost $45; In my experience the CandyShell cases scratch fairly easily and, after a time, look more than a bit worn
