Wreck-It Ralph

Why wait until March to see Wreck-It Ralph? Today Walt Disney Animation Studios begins the early release of Wreck-It Ralph on HD Digital and HD Digital 3D. The 4-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack, 2-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD, SD Digital and On-Demand will release on March 5, 2013. Bonus features on the physical home video versions will include four alternate/deleted scenes and easter eggs. The Oscar nominated animated short Paperman will also be included on the versions releasing on March 5.

The home video landscape continues to change with early release from various services. Several media companies are testing the waters to give viewers early access to popular films. This release represents a significant success initiated after an early November theatrical release (see my review here). Disney’s upcoming deal with Netflix hints at even more early releases in the future. Get Wreck-It Ralph now at the following media services:

Set in the video game realm, the fast-paced animated adventure-comedy Wreck-It Ralph features the lead character of the same title, voiced by John C. Reilly, Vanellope von Schweetz, voiced by comedienne Sarah Silverman, Sergeant Calhoun, voiced by Jane Lynch (TV’s Glee) and Fix-it Felix, Jr. voiced by Jack McBrayer.  Mindy Kaling (Taffyta Muttonfudge), Ed O’Neill (arcade owner Mr. Litwak), Alan Tudyk (King Candy) and Edie McClurg (Mary) also lend their considerable talents without letting their personality overtake their respective characters. Director Rich Moore (TV’s The Simpsons and Futurama) makes an impressive feature-film debut here as the film covers three eras in video game history – Fix-it Felix, Jr. a classic 8-bit game, set in Niceland; Sugar Rush, a Mario Kart-like racing world with candy characters and Hero’s Duty, a modern, first-person action game with antagonistic alien Cy-Bugs, which are a deadly threat to the entire arcade.
