JOBY’s GPod Mini Magnetic is the company’s “tiniest tripod with super-strong magnetic feet!” It is oh so cute and, at $14.95 it is oh so inexpensive. But don’t let the small size and low price fool you. The JOBY GPod Mini Magnetic is all JOBY and this little tripod is oh so useful. It makes a great present!

I have long been a fan of JOBY’s products. From the segmented legs to the strong magnets on many of their products, JOBY tripods work well and do a great job of letting you get the shot you want while also keeping your expensive camera gear safe. And while previous JOBY tripods worked well with my DSLR, now that I am using a small mirrorless camera a mini version of their venerable tripods is more than enough. Best of all, the JOBY GPod Mini Magnetic is under $15!

I’ve been using the JOBY GPod Mini Magnetic with my Sony NEX-6, and I find that it does a great job of holding my camera in the exact position I want.

Sure, even a camera as small as the NEX-6 looks big compared to the JOBY GPod Mini Magnetic … but that’s the idea. This is a mini tripod that’s big on getting the job done.

As JOBY explains how best to position the camera when setting it up for that perfect shot:

Because of its flexible leg joints, GPod is great for getting the perfect shot on just about any surface. Make sure to have one leg positioned to the left of the camera, one leg to the right and one leg in front of the lens for the most stable set up. You don’t want your GPod toppling over right in the middle of a timelapse photo series! A squat stance is the best stance for GPod!

Okay, so JOBY says to put the third leg toward the front of the camera. I prefer to put it to the back. Either way works quite well.

As the name explains, the JOBY GPod Mini Magnetic has magnetic feet that let you use the tripod in ways few other tripods can handle.

The three magnets in its feet are strong enough to hold my camera upside down. If it can do this it is no surprise that, by using the tripod, you can place your camera on pretty much any ferrous metal surface, like poles, pipes and railings.

The JOBY GPod Mini Magnetic is a great product that, thanks to its low price, belongs in every camera bag. Get yours here!

MSRP: $14.95

What I Like: Small but holds most cameras securely; Magnetic feet let you position the tripod on many surfaces that are anything but flat; Low price!

What Needs Improvement: Not the right tripod for large, heavy DSLRs
