The G-Boom Wireless Bluetooth Boombox by G-Project is a rugged speaker system that, despite it’s lower-end price tag, actually sounds pretty good. The G-Boom has a rechargeable battery for when you want to take the boombox into the woods, audio line-in jack, and volume, play, and forward/backward control buttons on the top. The G-Boom has a 2.2 speaker configuration with two full-range speakers and two tweeters facing front with two sound ports on the back. The front of the boombox is mainly taken up by a dark grey speaker grill that hides the speakers and tweeters. There are also three LED lights on the front that signify: Power (white), Charging or low power (red), and Bluetooth connectivity (blue).
The back of the speaker has the two sound ports behind the speakers as well as covered ports that are protected with a rubber cover. The ports in the rear are DC power input, USB port that can be used to charge USB devices, 3.5mm Aux input, and a reset button. At the top of the boombox there is a hefty handle and the control buttons. The buttons include: Power, Bluetooth, EQ settings, backward, play, forward, and volume up and down. These controls are used to be able to wirelessly control your music source rather than having to take it out of your pocket or wherever it’s being kept. On the sides of the boombox are loops that appear to be for some sort of shoulder strap, but this isn’t mentioned anywhere in the G-Boom literature.

G-Project really went all-out to make sure that the G-Boom Boombox is rugged enough to handle anything you throw at it. The base is made of tough rubber that is meant to be dropped. The ports on the back are covered to ward off any water or debris that may want to trespass. This is not to say that the boombox is waterproof, however. The handle on the top of the G-Boom is so hardy that G-Project says that you can actually sit on the boombox and use it as a seat. It’s actually meant to be sat on, that’s how rugged this boombox is.

Any other features that a speaker system has is all well and good, but the sound that it produces should really be the deciding factor. In this case, the G-Boom performs very admirably, especially considering it’s sub-$100 price tag. The music emanating from the speaker sounded great, without too much tinny-ness. And the bass was better than any speaker system that I’ve ever heard, in this category. The patented Maxx Audio technology might have something to do with it, as it’s designed to provide deep and dynamic bass performance. The mid-range performance was crisp as well. There was a slight echo at times, which detracts from the experience, but some drawbacks are to be expected.
The side of the G-Boom.
For a boombox to bring camping, or to the beach, or to your next cookout, the G-Boom would be a great choice. The only downside to it’s portability is the fact that the G-Boom’s rechargeable battery only lasts 5 hours. Otherwise, this is a great speaker system for the money and is highly recommended.
