Synology has recently announced the new DS415play, a four-bay Network Attached Storage system targeted at home media streaming. The DS415play has built-in video transcoding so that you can stream your media to any media streaming device much more easily. This powerful NAS system can accept up to 20TB of raw storage! The DS415play will be available in August for $539.99.

The Synology DS415play packs a 1.6GHz Dual-Core CPU and 1GB of RAM.  Synology boasts that it can “deliver 112.45 MB/sec reading and 101.21 MB/sec writing speed under RAID 5 configuration in a Windows environment.”  It also comes with three USB2.0 jacks and two USB3.0 jacks for all of your external data storage needs.

Ever since my review of the Synology DS213j, I’ve been a huge fan of Synology.  While it’s hard to determine whether their hardware is that much better than the competition, in my mind, they blow their peers out of the water with their beautifully designed DiskStation Manager OS software.  DSM 5.0 makes it so incredibly simple to use Synology’s NAS systems that it’s hard to ignore the value in it.

I can’t wait to take the Synology DS415play for a spin and bring you a full review, so stay tuned to this channel!
