If you are on the move and rely heavily on your phone or tablet the way we at Gear Diary do, you know how important having an external battery is. The Scosche goBAT 6000 Portable Wall Charger & Back-Up Battery is a great option for power on the go and at home. It’s well worth the $54.99 it costs.

Here’s what the company has to say about the goBAT 6000:

“For anyone in need of extra power, the goBAT 6000 provides an innovative solution to the dreaded low battery warning. The goBAT 6000 is a powerful portable cellphone charger and battery backup as well as being able to convert to a wall charger with the flip-out prongs. The internal 6000mAh ion battery will keep your devices going long after they normally would. This is the ideal battery for long commutes, airport travel and camping.”

Many think external backup batteries are all the same and the only difference is the capacity it brings to the table. That’s not quite right. In fact, it’s not right at all. Yes the capacity is an important consideration but the features that come with a charger matter too. For example…

The goBAT 6000 has two different USB ports so you can charge two devices at once. In addition, since one port provides one 1.5amp USB charging and the other offers 2.1amp charging it is ideal for powering up your smartphone and tablet simultaneously.

And while the battery doesn’t ship with cables- yes this is a BYOC (bring your own cables) accessory, it does have a US plug. That means you can simply plug the battery into the wall to charge it. It also means you can use the goBAT 6000 as your charging wall adapter when at home or in a hotel.

The goBAT 6000 is also fairly small despite the fact that it packs a 6000mAh battery inside. That size mean it can “easily fit into your hand or slip into luggage for easy travel”.

In addition, since it comes pre-charged you can use it right out of the box. This actually turned out to be pretty handy since I’m writing this review on a train to DC and my iPhone battery was running low. I broke out the battery, plugged in a cable and, within seconds, I was charging.

If you don’t need a mambo 16000 mAh battery that weighs more than your smartphone and tablet together this is a great option. It will charge your device up to three times and save you the need to bring a wall charger with you when you travel. The piano black finish looks great but shows fingerprints and the decision to not include a protective bag means it will get banged up if you use it seriously. Then again, it’s a backup battery so who really cares it it has fingerprints or scratches?? Learn more and order yours here.
